Incoming call/ringtone over Bluetooth

On my iPhone when some one called and I had my Bluetooth in it would send the ringtone over to my Bluetooth and the iPhone would not ring. On android you have to manually turn the phone ringer down to keep it from ringing even when Bluetooth is on (by default at least). But that isn't a big deal.

The real crux of this topic is that in my ear all I hear is "incoming call" with no indication of the number calling or any ringtone which might indicate who it is. I still have to pull my phone out and look at it before answering if I want to know. Is there anyway to make it send the ringtone to my Bluetooth or have it tell me the number? Been searching through settings and cannot find an option. Did I miss a setting or is there an App to control options on incoming calls via Bluetooth? Thanks.

Anyone? If it is obvious and I missed it feel free to call me stupid as long as you tell me how to push my ringtone over Bluetooth or at least call out the incoming number instead of just "incoming call".

I wonder how much of this is a function of your bluetooth device? For example, I don't believe my N4 "rings" on an incoming call when using my JayBirdGear BlueBuds X headset (but, honestly, I can't point to many examples when a call came in while I was using them...).

What bluetooth device are you using?

A backbeat 903+ by plantronics. I used the same headphones on my iPhone 4s and it "rang" in my ear with whatever ringtone was assigned to the number. Makes me think it is controlled by the phone and not the headset.

I think you may be correct. I just tried again with my JayBirds and determined that the Nexus 4 does indeed "ring" while I hear a repeating generic "boop-boop" tone in the headset. Like you, I do not see any obvious way to change this behavior.

Well the PDF owners manual for my headset does say you hear incoming call when you are called. https://www.plantronics.com/us/media/media_resources/literature/user_guides/backbeat_903_plus_ug_en.pdf?WT.dl=20

And yet it rang through on the iPhone. Maybe Plantronics is all butt buddy up with apple and it works special for an iphone. I dunno. I have used this headset since may with my iPhone and was shocked at the incoming call message with my Nexus. No clue. Maybe it is the headphones, but i do wish there was a way to know who was calling without having to look at my phone.

Download Headset Ringtone Manager to solve your problem. There is a lite version for free, or a full version for 99 cents.

I know headsets and car kits have different permissions. We have an aftermarket Bluetooth adapter that connects to the AUX back on a stereo and it works for all music sounds. Our Ford has Sync which allows me to use all functions as well although it changed my ringtone to one built into the car. We also have two portable Bluetooth speakers. The smaller one would also play a "built-in" ringtone when a call came in. It also played the phonecall over Bluetooth and you had to talk through it if it was connected. The larger one does no such thing. A call comes in, it mutes the music and the phone itself rings. I also, often have it turned all the way up, with no music, to dramatically increase the volume of my notifications, but if the phone rings, it's just the phone. If you go into the Bluetooth settings, each of the connected devices have different permissions. Unfortunately, they can only be turned on and off, not added so the permissions you get when you connect are the only ones. (To my knowledge) I'm also having a problem with my bigger, stand alone, Bluetooth speaker. While playing music, if I get a phone call the music just stops no ringtone. (On the phone or the speaker) the only indications I have that I have a call is the music suddenly stopping and I have my camera light set up to flash on incoming calls and notifications.
