Incoming update shortly

I'm going to try and download it again on Wifi when I get home from work. Hopefully it'll work then. :-\

One thing I did notice is that halfway through the loading / up date screen after it reboots into it, is that the Android will switch over to a triangle with an exclamation point inside of it. And then it reboots again back into the OS and the Update Failed message comes up.

Mine didn't do that. It was the standard update screen throughout the process.

This kernal is the same as 7.893 the radio is close except for mine is 02

The update worked fine for me. The download took over 30 minutes via WiFi, but it was successful the first time.

New version is 5.5.893.XT875.

I got my update around 4:30pm as I was running errands at the mall. It didn't take all that long to download and I don't SEE any differences so far.

I never had the headphone whine issue so I can't compare that.

I do notice that I'm getting 4G a lot more consistently...but it has only been 4hrs!

Are there any tricks I can use to get my update faster? I've tried rebooting and battery pulls...but still no go. On every other android phone I've had the update was always waiting for me the first time I checked. I'm impatient.

Why would they tell you this yesterday, when an update is being released to fix the problems? I'm calling BS.

I wouldn't call bs at all. Verizon has never been good at admitting or fixing issues. They either say it's not happening or replace the phone. I had the black screen of death issues as well as constant data issues. They told me on the phone they haven't had any bionic issues. A quick search here or google will prove its a pretty common issue. You mean to tell me I was the one and only to complain?

Now fast forward 2 months later I return my bionic and the guy at the Costco store says many customers returned their bionics.

Same here, stock and wont pull update even with reboot. im on 5.5.886

Only thing i can think of is maybe try a battery pull?

From some comments on the Moto Droid forum, it sounds like VZW will be pushing the OTA out in batches.

I hadn't been among those picked to do any of the soak testing, but received a notification yesterday afternoon that an update was available - did I want to d/l now or later? I clicked 'now' and it said the phone would shut down and re-start & that I couldn't place or receive calls during the process. I successfully d/led and installed it in just a few minutes.

You'll likely be in one of the batches that are 'coming soon'! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

really?? I've gone more than 24 hours with low-moderate usage (extended battery, of course). Generally though, I use the daylights out of my phone for all sorts of things, which is why I like having access to several batteries so that I can swap them up if necessary and be back up and running in under two minutes. It's nice to hear your report that battery life has improved with the update.

And I've been able to go well past 8 hours with the standard battery with more restrained usage.

I got the message to update earlier today but I clicked postpone. Now when I try to go into the phone info and click system update it won't let me click it, I don't know what's wrong.

Is your 4G consistently on or do you also have it on 3G? Also, is this on a standard or extended battery?

I checked all day friday, then when I got home from work friday around 3:30pm, I got it.
I live on the edge of 4g (one bar) at my house, and when I leave it will go to either 3 or a stronger 4g. I would ALWAYS lose connectivety but on day 4 and all is well.

I received the update but the handoff from 4G to 3G sucks. I was out of my normal 4G area and was in a 3G area and had little data all week. I instead had to play the Airplane Mode game all weekend. By that I mean I had to turn on Airplane Mode and turn it on and try to get a 3G Data signal. I did not have trouble in this area last time I was there but after the update it was hell to try to get a 3G signal.
