Inconsistent Data Connection

Q1: Anybody having inconsistent data connection with there Vivid? I'm in the new Baltimore region.
I have full bars, 4G LTE, and about every 4th internet search or I'll be downloading from market just errors out "check data connection".

Q2: Anybody noticed a dramatic signal difference with 4G LTE?
I put my 2nd phone (blackberry 9000 3G) next to the Vivid 4G LTE and the bars are completely different. That could have something to do with the different network type.

It also took my phone 24 hours to stop saying my current time was San Jose CA, but that worked its self out..
Any help is appreciated, Thanks.
 
I'm in northern New Jersey and I'm having connection problems as well. I do not have LTE coverage where I'm at but I do get the "4G" icon. Even with all bars, it only works when it wants to. My previous phone was the iPhone 4 and I had a constant connection everywhere that the Vivid is struggling. Going to AT&T later to see what they say. Hopefully they work some magic, I really like this phone.

Same here, live up there but I work in the tristate area and I'm having data connections primarily in the browser everywhere. Inconsistent, thats really a shame as I like the phone alot but this is not acceptable. I'll be going to the store during my lunch again. Hopefully I wont be forced to get the skyrocket.
 
I live near the Baltimore/D.C area and i have had the VIVID since the Sunday Launch Date. The symptoms are the same as you guys stated above. Inconsistent data connection no matter if i am on LTE/HSPA+ or Edge. I have the phone reactivated/ SIM card replaced and have done a hard reset of the device.Nothing. AT&T customer has been of little to no help they told me they saw no problems with my device/account settings and that i should return the device. I went back to the AT&T store were i bought the phone from and guess what !!?!?! The demo VIVID and SKYROCKET phones they had out were doing the exact same thing including one a customer service rep. had on him!!! That was at a store in columbia MD.Went to a store a few miles up the road in Arrundel Mills same thing with there phones and to top it off a customer in there got his VIVID replaced with a new one while i was there and the new phone had the same issue. Went to a store in greenbelt MD and there DEMO phones including the SKYROCKET had the same exact issue. The reps are useless though as they cant seem to wrap there heads around the fact that data only works 1/4 of the time even when you show them another none-LTE phone downloading the same damn page right next to an LTE phone struggling. As you can see i have done my homework and have found no help whatsoever from AT&T.WTF!!!! All this after the Infuse 4G GingerGate issue. WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!!!!!

At&t is obviously not ready for lte devices and if the solution takes as long as it took for them to fully deploy their 4g service then I'm abandoning ship pronto because that still hasnt happened.

I just read somewhere else that the skyrocket has the same issues. Im considering the atrix 2 now.

Anyone considering a different device?
 
hmmm, not good, not good at all. Anybody else seeing these issues? I am planning on picking mine up this weekend, but may hold off a bit if this turns into a network wide issue...
 
I also am from the Baltimore area and get 1-2 bars of LTE where I live. Using the speedtest.net app, I get around 4-7 down speed. Despite this, the loading of pages always hangs and never finishes. I also notice the phone getting warmer if I leave it to try to finish loading. Even when I have full bars for hspa/+, I get the same results.
 
has anybody tried turning off the LTE radio and just using HSPA+ to see if that alleviates the issue? (or is that even possible)?

The ability to turn off or select radios is not present in the AT&T version of the phone. The Raider as it is known on Bell in Canada is the only version i known that gives you that choice. If it helps i have noticed while the phone is on HSPA+ and not on LTE it has the same problem. EDGE connectivity yields the same results.
 
Thanks everybody for the response to my questions. I'm satisfied knowing I'm not the only one with data connection inconsistencies.

Today I traveled to central PA for business and noticed the HSPA+ working just fine. Now that I'm back in Baltimore, the LTE works fine. I'm no longer experiencing any data issues. I'm not sure if anything was "smoothed" out with the service or what.

Since unboxing around 25mb DN and 12mb UP using speedtest.net app.

I'm not convinced the issues are fixed, only time will tell.
 
quick question, for all of those having these issues, are you on a tiered plan or the grandfathered data plan? it seems that the unlimited plan has certain restrictions causing pages and apps to not work.

Actually not quite, some threads I've read from other sites somewhat allude to it. Also considering the description of the "LTE SMARTPHONE UNLIMITED PERSONAL ADD-ON " data plan compared to the descriptions of the tiered plans under Manage Features in our myat&t accounts, it seems to imply that certain things are restricted. However, someone did say that they were on a tiered plan and was having the same issues. So hopefully this is something that can be resolved through AT&T soon, or through root.
 
It seems to happen on Unlimited(which im on) or tiered from a few people at the store i talked to that had the same issue. The SKYROCKET also does it . Im in the D.C. Baltimore area. I have heard most of the complaints from east coast customers. Are you guys in the same boat?
 
Mark me down as another person having the same exact troubles.

HTC Vivid, live in Frederick, MD(no LTE) work in DC (LTE) certain websites won't completely load no matter what I do, when I have strong LTE things are a bit better, hspa+ is hanging all the time. And as the radios are constantly up and down, I have twice now since sunday missed calls, only to find out via google voice.
 
I live in the central new jersey area and my htc vivid is having the same issue. I purchased it on sunday the day it came out. I didnt actvate it till i got home and realize the internet wasnt working at all. spoke to att and they said it was because my line wasnt provisioned for lte so she switch me to lte unlimated plan and when we got off the phone it seem to be working fine. The next day I went to use it and it was back to not working. I had the sim replaced and The phone itself. Still having the same issue. The crazy thing is if I take that same sim card and put it in my htc inspire it works like a charm. So this lead me to believe the phone is the problem itself. If anyone knows any fixes for it please respond thank you.
 
Im not a radio expert but i do not believe it is the phones. I think there is a switching problem with the LTE towers. This happens on edge on my phone also. If you configure the apn like mentioned earlier in this thread you will lose LTE but the phone will work like a charm. I think the towers are confusing the phones radio. This also happens on the SKYROCKET btw.
