Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, so a brief introduction: I'm Josh, and a new Droid user, switching from iOS.

Now the problem:
I bought my DINC2 and the 3.5mm headphone jack sucks! Move the earphones a cm and it cuts out. I'm very displeased with this. Well, I missed my 14 day return date with VZW, and so they sent me a Certified Like-New phone. The jack on that one sucked too, so I sent it back and and a new "Like-New" phone came a day later, also with a crappy jack. What's up with this? Is this a defect in the line of phones as a whole? Or am I just getting crap all around here?

I've searched high and low for the answer to this. I could not find a single post on any site about this issue, which makes me think I'm a minority, but if that's the case, then why are these CLN's crappy too?

I appreciate your time and attention,
Josh

I use the 3.5 every weekend for about 8 hours at work. I haven't had any problems. Make sure you have them plugged in all the way. It's surprisingly harder to get them all the way in than you might think. Much harder! There's another thread on here somewhere with another user having the same problem but realized they weren't plugged all the way in. Honestly, I have to push a little harder than normal to get them all the way in.

Yea, you probably don't have your headphones all the way in. I had the same problem until I snapped that they weren't plugged in completely.

Dear Josh,

I bought the Droid Incredible 2 in red on cyber monday of this year. I love the phone, but I have the same issue as you. I have checked multiple times that it is plugged in all the way, and it always is. I have noticed it only plays music out of the left side for some reason. I have a wire that I plug it into in my truck, and it does the same thing, only plays music out of the driver's side panel speaker. I know this reply didn't help you at all, I just wanted to let you know you were not the only one having the problem...

Sincerely,

Ean Clifton

The quality of the cable matters.

I bought a cable from Radio Shack to plug it into my 3.5mm jack in my car's aux input and it's fantastic. No scratches, cut out, etc. I then purchased a cassette adapter off of eBay for $1.99 to use in my work truck. It's scratchy and it cuts out if I rotate it when it's plugged in.

Try a different cable and buy the highest quality you can. I thought they were all the same (like an HDMI cable) but based on my experiences, they aren't.

My wife's DINC2 had the same problem when she was using the aux plug in her car. I noticed the plastic above the part that plugs into was too thick and would not truly fully plug into her phone. I got her one with a thinner plastic area and she has not had any problems since then.

Is the 3.5 not a standard size? I have had it for like 8 months. I don't use my headphones much but it does cut out every time that it moves slightly. I have a $30 set of phillips headphones so I don't know if there is another size that I should have bought. I thought they were all the same size

3.5" is the standard.

I was so interested in this that I took out my headphones (inexpensive pair of Rosewill from NewEgg) and had no problems at all. People say it's a common problem BUT I haven't seen much on the Forums (vs. say the reception/radios problems with the Nexus). I didn't have to do anything special to put them in. I do know that inexpensive sets of earphones can have "cable static" if they aren't properly shielded. I've had my Dinc 2 since the red one was on sale Thanksgiving 2011 (free on contract). The only downside was only an 8 gig Micro SD card (replaced by a 32 gig for $35). Runs great (for people that complain about phones/lag I think they forget these are computers and I could complain about my quad core SSD desktop that takes a couple of seconds to load a program). For those of you who say root is better I intend to stay stock as long as I can because I just want my gadgets to work and don't want to mess around with a bunch of different roms to find "the right one". Also, if I do start having problems don't want to try to research whether it's the ROM or the phone. By the way, this is my first Android phone (Palm user before this - R.I.P. - don't think the public domain is going to revive this :(). I must be one of those crazy people who think Sense is fine (2.1 with Gingerbread 2.3). I am looking forward to ICS (too bad we're only getting 3.6 because it looks like HTC has listened to their users with 4.0). In my opinion, people who root are just like overclocker's back in the day (80's, 90's) who are always tweaking their phone - great hobby but very time consuming (end of rant).

I have the same exact problem. And I need help fixing it. Or can it be fix???

Yes, Yes, and YES!

I'm glad I'm not the only person who is having this issue. Misery loves company.

The odd issue (that I'm having, anyway) is this:

When my BOSE earphones are plugged ALL the way in, life is grand. It all goes South the INSTANT the jack is rotated even the SMALLEST amount in any direction. This is a HUGE problem for me considering my commute to work consists of a fair amount of walking (NYC). So, I end up walking down the street with my hand in my pocket with a thumb holding/pushing it in. Otherwise, the jack slips out a mere ONE millimeter every 5 steps, cutting off the connection. It's like Chinese Water Torture. Ridiculous.

I've only had iPods in the past. And their ports have been nothing but great. They keep a firm grasp on whatever's plugged in. I never thought I would have to test a headphone jack on a device before purchasing. I'll be doing that from now on.

Are other HTC devices like this? Any solutions aside from KRAZY GLUE??

  :(

This seems to happen to me as well... Having used different sets of headphones, I think it has something to do with the jack on the end of the cord. Yes, the port on the phone should hold firmly with any set of headphones. However, using a set of Beats earbuds worked very well with the jack seated securely in the port, whereas another set of earphones comes loose with the slightest twist. Strange, but apparently the way it is with the hardware on this phone.

I have experienced the same problem. I've had my dinc2 for a year but only began having problems after a few months. I find that an ipod headphone that my daughter got with her ipod works better than all other headphones. I think the 3rd ring around the end, which is for the microphone that is built into the headphone cord, helps keep it plugged in a little tighter. Although it still can be dislodged and sound cut off if I put the phone in my pocket and the cord stretches out and pulls at the plug.

I've seen a few posts about this around the web, but not many. It does appear to be a general issue with dinc2s, but not universal. I haven't seen any solution posted.

Strangely I never had an issue with my jack. I was previously using Shure earbuds for music only and my old blackberry earbuds with mic for phone conversations. Had no problems at all with either. Just the other day, I bought a pair of Skullcandy earbuds with built in mic and the mic portion does not work at all. The phone does not recognize that the head phones have a mic and just shows the headphone symbol, not the headphone with mic symbol, in the notifications bar on the top of the screen. It must be the way the skullcandy 3.5mm plug is designed but it looks exactly the same as the old blackberry set that I have. I saw somewhere else that the three black rings on the jack can be in different orders which can cause problems on some phones. For instance, left audio, right audio, mic, vs. left audio, mic, right audio. Not sure if that is true though.
