Hi,

My Droid X with 2.2 has a bug where the built-in mail client mandates SMTP authentication. The Verizon/Motorola fix is use K-9 but that takes away the integrated mail box.

The phone also has bugs with the Exchange server support where I can't edit any calendar entries made by a computer or edited by another user. The Motorola native Exchange support also lacks a Tasks/Todo app. The Verizon/Motorola fix on this is use Touchdown but they're not giving me a free lic. like they were prior to 2.2.

I'd consider sticking with Android if the messaging were better. Can any of you answer whether or not the HTC/Incredible software bundle is better because the K-9 and Touchdown solution for the mail accounts I have to is inefficient and ugly to what I had in my Blackberry (Storm).

I won't deny that there's a lot of neat stuff with Android but I need good messaging above all.

Thank you.

WJL

Um. Yes.....to all.

Incredible is exactly that. Incredible.......except maybe battery life until you learn the tweaks.

I use Exchange for my work email and it works flawlessly. My wife uses the Droid 2 and she uses touchdown because the stock mail program for the Droid 2 makes her enter a PIN every time the screen goes black. It's Moto, not Android there.

For my personal email from comcast I use K9. I like the separate notification sounds for each account so I don't keep them all in one program, but that is a personal preference. Then of course there is my gmail which has really become my primary email because of how fast it is pushed.

I am a former blackberry owner myself, and at first I missed the integrated inbox. I adapted rather quickly and I now prefer to keep them all separate.

Personally, I've never been a fan of Motorola. I've never had a good experience. There are some cool little tweaks here and there that each android phone has unique from the manufacturer, but I find HTC does Android the best for me. The Sense UI is fantastic. If HTC no longer was gonna make Android phones, I would have to say I would probably buy the Samsung.

Rereading your complaints, I really think you would be happy with the Incredible. Not really sure about your work exchange calender, but I use the gmail calender (live and die by it) but it does incorporate my work calendar into it, and uploads any changes to the work calendar that I make from my phone. Hope this helps.

This phone is the best phone I've ever had, and I was an iphone fanboy hoping for it to come to Verizon. No more. This phone has made me an android fan for life.

The Sense UI mail client has it's own issues. I don't know how much it affects Exchange. Recently Hotmail got an Exchange-compatible sync option, and while the stock Android mail client can connect to it with EAS, the Sense UI client has some missing component and doesn't work. I have a few Hotmail accounts and this obviously annoys me.

I use my inc to connect to my work exchange server and I can tell you it syncs my email and calendar perfectly. I don't sync work contacts but it has that option too. And battery life isn't affected as much as I thought it would be since I have it set to sync as items arrive. Overall battery life on the inc ain't that great but it's bearable as long as you don't plan on being away from a charger for more than a day.

I have yet to have any issues with the sense mail client. I can't use hotmail anymore as it is so full of spam. The OP's question really sounded like exchange was his primary concern, and that works flawlessly. Between the Droid X and Droid 2, there are some wierd Exchange issues that are completely on Motorola. I really don't like that I had to pay $20 for Touchdown just so that my wife doesn't have to use a PIN every 5 min. I don't like Motorola's menu's at all. Either Sense has extra stuff, or Moto really restricts. I tend to think the latter with the locked bootloader and all.

Thanks. I liked much about the phone when I handled it but some associates and the store manager said the X gets better battery life and my old eyes like the big screen. I can't life with the kluge mail though.

I really have to have calendar, contacts _and_ tasks working for the Exchange part. Does the Incredible's ActiveSync client do tasks too?

The problem with my using Droid X is I have to have two pop3 accounts at a hosting firm that does not have SMTP auth. The Droid X mail client populates the user and password fields in outgoing settings no matter what you do to set it up or delete those fields. Verizon/Motorola confirmed this and said choose a different mail provider (not an option) or use K-9.

My daughter wants me to keep something more fun than the Blackberry but she's not the one who gets scheduled and tasked by any of hundreds of people in a business that never stops.

Thanks again.

No tasks syncing in the stock mail app. I believe you can do that with a thirdparty app like touchdown but I've never used it.

As for Old Eyes, the font on the HTC mail client is pretty large.

The mail client from HTC is hands down the best maker app for connecting to exchange mail. I have become very fond of the whole sense UI.

As for battery life, I sank an extra $35 into a couple batteries and a charger from an Amazon seller. Here is the link for it: Amazon.com: Sprint HTC EVO 4G 2x1800 mAh Battery Longer life than OEM+ Wall Travel Dock USB Charger also for Verizon Incredible Droid Touch Pro2: Cell Phones & Service
I have been able to go 8AM to midnight on 1 charged battery which generally includes the kids playing games for an hour or two (3 kids) at night, me playing games, checking rss feeds, emails, some surfing, and obviously a whole slew of phone calls through the day.

Pretty heavy use daily, and I still have battery left at night. Right now I am sitting at 65% battery left at 9PM.

I have found myself answering emails more from my phone than my PC on most days, due to a slew of meetings.

You could try gtasks for task sync with google. Not what you are looking for, but you can sync tasks from outlook to google. I don't use the tasks in outlook as I rely on the calendar for my reminders, so I can't say how well gtasks works. it is a program I know a few people I work with use and really seem to like.

Contacts do sync very well.

Found another app that does exchange well. It's called roadsync. It DOES sync tasks. My wife is using the 14 day trial. Her touchdown trial expired and she doesn't think it is worth $20. Roadsync is only $10.
