Incredible is rebooting all the time

I spent two hours tonight trying to get the phone to stop spontaneously rebooting during the boot process--without success. I finally gave up and used the Volume Down and Power buttons to select the FACTORY RESET option; not sure what the difference is between that and the CLEAR STORAGE option. Anyway, the phone spontaneously rebooted again during the account setup process! Next, I used the buttons again and selected the CLEAR STORAGE option. This worked. I've spent the last hour setting up my account and re-installing applications--including AppBrain.

I got a little impatient and installed four or five applications at the same time when -- BOOM! -- the phone started spontaneously rebooting again. (Prior to the FACTORY RESET and CLEAR STORAGE steps I performed above, installing four or five apps at the same time would almost *always* cause a spontaneous reboot--but I figured that was related to the problem that was causing all the other spontaneous reboots. I guess I was wrong. So much for Android's stability.)

Although the phone doesn't seem too warm (thanks, Kratzer), I've removed the battery and am letting the device (and me!) cool down for a while. Suffice to say I am not happy.

UPDATE: After 15 minutes, I inserted the battery. It hasn't spontaneously rebooted yet--but it most likely will...and at the most unexpected and important time. What should I do? Call VZW Tech Support? Take it to my local VZW store? How can I convince them that there is truly a problem with the phone? I suppose I can simply install four or five applications at the same time...but that seems like a poor way to demonstrate that there's a problem with the phone, IMO.

The phone began spontaneously rebooting again this morning. I called VZW; they're sending me a new phone. Considering that the phone spontaneously rebooted right after it was wiped, it seems likely to be a hardware problem.

I've had the phone for five months--so why did this begin occurring, especially so often, only recently? The replacement phone won't include a battery--so if the battery is the culprit, I'll have the same problem with the replacement phone. I asked the technician to make a note of that--so that I can get the battery replaced next, if necessary.

I have had my Inc. reboot on me a few times. Seems like very time it has happened, I've had Google Navigation running and been on a call connected to Bluetooth at the same time. Maybe there is a conflict there somewhere? I've also noticed that my call quality is sometimes very poor when I have Google Navigation running....

My first Dinc got to the point where it would spontaneously reboot every time Google Navigation and Pandora (sometimes just Google Navigation) were launched. After a factory reset it continued to manifest the same problem.

My replacement Dinc has been fairly solid....although it did spontaneously reboot two nights ago for no apparent reason. I had just updated a few apps.

I sometimes think these devices get to the point where only a reboot (spontaneous or manual) will clear things up.

I had the same rebooting issue - it started out sporadically, with Google Nav, but eventually got to the point where it was happening multiple times a day no matter what was running, and the phone was basically useless. Factory resets didn't help.

Verizon said it's a known problem, and replaced the phone no questions asked. The "new" (refurb) phone been working great for the past 4 months. I was concerned about the battery being the culprit, but I'm using the same stock battery from the old phone and have had no problems, no spontaneous reboots yet -- even when running / installing multiple apps. Keeping my fingers crossed that this continues.

I had the same issue, I thought the main issue was the GPS, after awhile I couldnt stand the frequent reboots, so called VZ and they sent me a replacement working great so far

Have my 3rd phone on the way for the same issue.

All stock, just scroll around in Maps and resets. I also believe it is heat related. Gets to the point that the only way to make it stop resetting is to pull the battery for 20 minutes.

My replacement/refurbished Dinc spontaneously rebooted this morning. No idea why. It's been stable since the reboot--even though it has been used quite heavily--including Google Navigation. In fact, I'm using PDANet on it right now to surf and to post this very message.

Yesterday, when I pressed and held the Home button to see the most recently used apps, I noticed that only three apps were listed--so it must have spontaneously rebooted prior to this morning's reboot.

Are reboots and/or startups written to a log file? I'd like to examine such a resource to determine just how many times the device has rebooted lately.

Newbie here

HTC Droid Inc.

I replaced my stock battery with another stock battery and haven't had any reboots all day.
Was constantly rebooting all day!
Thanks for all the great help on this forum!

Hats off to you all!

My Dinc continues to spontaneously reboot every few weeks. Not sure what causes it. I figure the device gets to the point where memory isn't properly freed up (or something), resulting in the reboot. I haven't found any pattern to the reboots. At least the reboots are nowhere *near* as bad as they were months ago--when I ended up having to replace the device.
