Incredible worth it 8 months later?

Great forum you guys have. I would just appreciate some input. I have a 2yr old Blackberry Curve 8900 which is good but is not up-to-date with the current smartphone age. I have T-Mobile USA and they have been ok but lets put it this way, I am willing to switch carriers. I am not under contract so I'd have no consequence. I have been eying the Verizon Wireless Android phones for a few weeks and the HTC Droid Incredible seems to be an excellent phone. I see that it was released April 2010 which makes me very skeptical about signing a new 2 yr contract with almost a year old phone?

So this is what I am asking. Is the Droid Incredible worth it since its FREE? I'd like to get a hot smartphone but would have buyer's remorse if a new phone similar to the HTC incredible came out a few months later. I know Verizon doesn't have SIM cards so selling the phone a few months on eBay or something would be impossible right?"

My apologies for being a newbie but I really value the opinions of those who have had an Android phone for a while and perhaps Verizon too.

If it were me in the same position I'd wait a few months. The incredible is a great phone but we seem to be on the cusp of some new hardware. That's just me though.

Thanks. I'd just hate to switch to Verizon and see they got rid of their unlimited data plans which I hear they'll be doing soon come the iPhone 5.

The Incredible is good. But new hardware is gonna come out anytime now. You can sell the phone on ebay, but you obviously have to have your new one first. The only thing it will need is to have a clean ESN.

Oh thanks for clarifying. Any of those new hardware droid devices coming out for the holidays this year? Probably Q1 2011 right?

I think is true new hardware will be out around new year but the incredible is far away to be outdated, as a Free Phone is your best deal why? Because if you wait for a new phone you will have to pay a least $200.00 us, second the HTC Incredible will get soon the new HTC sense plus Gingerbread the new Android OS, third with the new OS you will have an updated beautiful smartphone hard to beat even for those new devices, four the awesome support that this phone has from Developer plus alot of Roms to play with it make the HTC Incredible the best android phone out there, be aware with Verizon you can early upgrade 1 year even if you have 2 years contract.

Well said. See I know nothing about Android phones except most of them are high spec'd. You make an excellent point with the phone being free and all. I didn't know Verizon lets people upgrade a year early. The HTC Incredible HD I was reading about isn't going to be that much greater than the HTC Incredible. Teh good thing is the phone would be free. Does anyone know if signing up for Verizon service on this site is the same as it would be on verizonwireless.com?

Do you Android guys have any program capable to that of Blackberry messenger?

There are so many of these threads popping up asking the same question - is the Incredible still incredible? One word: YES. Take a look at the specs of the new fangled Nexus S. Nearly the same as the Incredible but with a front facing camera. I think holding out waiting for better hardware is going to deliver only modest rewards. Maybe a slight bump in processor speed and front facing camera, but nothing earth shattering. And while you wait you'd be sporting a BB Curve! Get the Incredible for free and start enjoying Android. If/when new hardware comes out you can decide if it is worth paying for. I can assure you, you will be happy to have the Incredible. I've had mine since day-one and would buy it again today in a heartbeat.

FWIW - I'm rooted and running a custom ROM that lets me watch hulu on my phone (amongst other goodies). I have about sixty apps installed. That's something you'd never be able to do on any BlackBerry.

Can I ask if you have Verizon? I would be switching over from T-Mobile and I already know Verizon has better coverage in my area. If I get the Incredible through cellstores.com which is available on this site somewhere is that the same as signing up through verizon.com? It is 30 days to cancel correct?

I just keeping thinking of what you said before about getting it for free versus a new phone coming out and having to pay $199. Thanks again for your input.

I do have Verizon. I think that's the only network the Incredible is available on. As far as signing up through cellstores.com, I have no knowledge. If it were me, I'd stick with VerizonWireless.com or BestBuy.com. It is free with free shipping at BestBuy:

Thanks. So signing up through BB is the same as Verizonwireless.com? Verizonwireless.com doesn't have it for free thoguh or I would sign up through them.

Signing up for the two year deal is probably the same for any authorized reseller (BestBuy or cellstores). One good thing about going with BB is that there are probably stores in your area if you have any issues.

I bought a second DInc in November and WISH I had waited... Until they were FREE!!!!! ;)

I had someone in town that also has a DInc ask me what they should upgrade to since they had an upgrade coming on their plan. I said “nothing.” There is not a phone in VZW's lineup I would switch to, unless I ever started traveling heavily internationally again. (Which is not likely for me at the moment.)

Yeah the more I read on it the more positive things people have to say about it. I was reading on the Droid Incredible HD which apparently isn't go to offer much more.

So you also think with the Droid Inc being free to definitely take advantage of it right?

Personally... I would. $200 is $200. However, before you do - go to a corporate store and play with one for a while, if you have not done so already, to make sure you like it. People like different things on different phones.

I will tomorrow. Can I ask if its night and day difference from a Blackberry? Any similarities like updating the OS?

OK - So my inner jokester want to say - "Yes, BB is the Night and Android is the Day!" or "Yes they're like Apples and Oranges, and everyone loves Oranges! No one likes Apples!"

But - I will restrain myself.

The BB and Android experiences are very different. But in terms of reliability and "hackability" (if that's what you want to do) the DInc is a great, stable phone that still has plenty of life in it as far as updates and relevance goes.

Hope this helps.

Just to throw my 2 cents in there I just "bought" a DInc for my dad. It was free from Best Buy. I considereed getting him a Droid X but it just doesnt do much for me and it was still $199. In my opinion the DInc is still the best available at VZW, especially for free.

I came from a BB, as did a number of my friends. There are few things you have to get used to and a few things you have to change the way you think about doing stuff. After a few weeks I laughed at myself for initially thinking I didn't like the way Android does certain things. For example, closing apps. With Android you just don't do it. WHAT? That's right, you just don't close apps, the OS does it for you. In the nine months I've had my Incredible I've NEVER done a battery pull. That sounds preposterous for a BB user, but I'm not kidding.

Like anything new you might have some initial reservations, but I challenge you to find a person on this forum who doesn't love their Incredible.

So, what are you waiting for?
