Incredible worth it 8 months later?

If this was July or august, I would definitely say to get the incredible. It is by far one of the most superior phones out. But the problem is that new hardware is coming soon, so that means better screens, front cameras, dual core Qualcomm 1.2 chips, maybe even better cameras. Incredible lived up to its name in 2010, but q1 of 2011 and maybe even nearing q2 of 2011 will be insane for new phones, thus updating the beloved incredible, and aging it one year.

I wasn't being condescending. I just found that remark to be kind of funny. Anyway, what is the difference between the Droid Incredible and the Droid Incredible HD? If I read the correct specs, the only differences seem very minor IMO. 4G capable, ability to shoot 720p video, faster processor? These are all totally irrelevant to me but I know some people probably could benefit from them.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 but this looks to be the same as the Blackberry Bold 9780 update. Very minor with only a few hardware bumps. I am kind of thinking twice with 4G because it looks like carriers are going to start charging extra or a 'premium' for it.

Sorry if my comment came off as 'condescending'. That wasn't my intention.
Imo, a faster processor will be much better (and also have a better gpu), and 4g is going to be insane on VZW, because they have always been fast. Plus, it has new sense, so that means o one has to hack the build onto the phone and come up with crazy fixes.

Thanks for your input. When these new amazing smartphones do come they will cost $199 with a contract renewal. I got the Dinc completely for free. I am coming from a Blackberry so I don't mind having technology that isn't new. By the end of next year the Dinc will probably be outdated but still work very well. I am just entering the 3G world and Android. The specs on the Dinc are already well over my requirements. Realistically I could probably get another year a half out of my Curve 8900. I just want change and I got it and for free ;)

When the Dinc came out did any of you who got it day 1 or shortly after get it for free? The phone is only better now I'd assume with more updates and Android 2.2 right?

Quick question, I was reading reviews for it and one guys claims the Dinc doesn't save pictures to the memory card? So does this mean when I take pics it won't save them to the memory card but the phone's memory?

I am in no hurry to get on Verizon's 4G network. Looks like they will be charging a premium for it and there will be no unlimited option due to high bandwidth.

just dropping my two cents in. I had a storm2 and had really good luck with it. Lot of battery pulls though. At that time i also tried the moto android and really liked the OS but didn't like the keyboard. Story short...I ungraded to the Incredible about 5 months after it came out and couldn't be happier. Recently I found a few users and we all agree that it is incredible. Me....I would get the incredible now even for $200. I feel that the phone will hold it's own for another 2 years.

The incredible is a great phone, but I hate Verizon for not having Telenav available for Droid. Google nav is free, but pretty sad in comparison to Telenav. I should have stayed with T-mobile and bought the G2.

I can say from experience that absolutely the Droid Incredible is still a very viable device. I got 1st DInc on launch day and I was coming from years of BlackBerry use. I was (stupidly) swayed by the iPhone 4 and followed the siren's song only to crash into the rocks on AT&T.

Fortunately for me the resale value of iPhone 4's was still very high back in October and I clipped more than enough to buy out my contract and buy a new Android phone.

Now this is where it got fun (not really) I actually found myself questioning what device to get. Should I get the new hotness Fascinate, the very nice Droid X, wait for the new Droid2 Global (or Droid Pro) or get the older Droid DInc.

Well how about all of the above. Yes I tried every phone on that list (except for the Droid Pro, not my style). You may be wondering how I managed to go from a Fascinate to a Droid X, to a Droid 2 Global, back to a Droid X, to yes finally realize that the Droid Incredible is what I truly found to be my device.

First the Fascinate, Samsung has a terrible history of supporting OS updates and while the device was hot, it was outdated out of the box, sluggish and I wasn't going to live with it. I exchanged it for the Droid X, great phone, but the feel and crappy Moto Blur left a bad feeling (along with Moto's refusal to play nice with the hacking community) so then the new Droid 2 Global comes out. I heard great things, about the keyboard, I liked it good size, very zippy, still the crappy moto blur, but the biggest issue was the smallish size and the keyboard (big hands). So all of that was done at Best Buy, great 30 day window to return unlike Verizon's one time and that's it.

So I opted to buy to get the DX again after the Droid 2 Global and figured I would live with Moto Blur until the hackers got rid of it, had some fun tweaking and putting new ROM's and all around playing with the device. Still I felt it was just not cutting it for me.

I was able to work with a very nice VZW Customer Service agent who put the notes in to approve my replacement (even though I had one already at Verizon) and the store of course could not "our system is hard coded for 1 return only", so I called customer service again they helped out, I got the DInc for $149, extd battery and honestly I will be very happy.

So long story short (if you are still reading) the Droid Incredible is still a great phone. Tegra2 Dual Core phones will be out next year but so what, they will save some battery life, but if you get the DInc now you will be 3-6 months closer to getting the LTE capable phones when the next round of devices comes out. Plus you can just get a 1 year contract and pick up the Tegra2 phones next Christmas.

Well said my friend! The D'Inc is still king in my book, and when you get one, check out this rooting guide

I should have asked this before but does anyone know if the Dinc comes pre-loaded with Android 2.2? If not, is it an easy update method because I have looked over rooting and don't feel comfortable doing it yet. So now that 2.2 is released this device can shoot 720p video?

@MattMJB, the DInc has always allowed me to take pictures and have them go to the Card.

@polo, umm the DInc comes with VZW telenav installed.... don't know why you think it doesn't.

I think he's referring to the tele nav app, not vz navigator and not Google nav

well for me I had to pay retail and it was worth it to me. I am pleased and I don't have this kind of money to just throw away, but too many issues on BB. I was offered the original Motorola Droid and I don't like that device. There were no refurbished Incredibles available and was told possible a month. I had agreed to that and then the next morning, the BB froze 3 times on me and also lagging. So I went to the store , did check out the Motorola Droid, only it wasn't on display............they had to show me a refurbished one (no back, no battery) and still...........not liking it.
I just dove into it and got the Incredible. In the long run I am saving money. I was able to cancel my VZ Nav because Android has FREE google voice nav and I have used it. It is awesome. Verizon did give me a month's data free due to the issues I was having with BB. I am selling it and am sure will have a buyer for it. I don't regret paying for the Incredible although I wish it could had been a little cheaper !
I haven't experienced anything bad with it. My calls are crystal clear, the speakerphone is much better than that of my Bold. My only dismay is the battery life. But it needs to get broken in and I probably will invest in an extended battery.
This is a great device and I highly recommend it. It lives up to its name....Incredible

Appreciate the response, thanks for your sharing.

Yes, indeed, and with the software updates and the price reduction, it's even better than when it was new.

Not if you want official updates after gingerbread.

Sent from my Droid Incredible because I'm too lazy to walk over to my computer.

I'm pretty sure if you buy one new it'll have 2.2 on it, if not it is an OTA update and will take 5 minutes automatically. No rooting needed.

Because after gingerbread is officially pushed to the droid incredible the droid incredible hd will be out soon after. This will most likely faze out the droid incredible from verizon's priorities
