Incredible worth it 8 months later?

I came from a BB, as did a number of my friends. There are few things you have to get used to and a few things you have to change the way you think about doing stuff. After a few weeks I laughed at myself for initially thinking I didn't like the way Android does certain things. For example, closing apps. With Android you just don't do it. WHAT? That's right, you just don't close apps, the OS does it for you. In the nine months I've had my Incredible I've NEVER done a battery pull. That sounds preposterous for a BB user, but I'm not kidding.

Like anything new you might have some initial reservations, but I challenge you to find a person on this forum who doesn't love their Incredible.

So, what are you waiting for?

Nothing. I just placed my order and can't wait. One little question. Does anyone know if the 30 day begins after the activation or the day I ordered which is today?

With the new Blackberry Bold 9780 I had a week ago I had to do a battery pull like every 3 days and that was with a new OS and phone. I am not saying Blackberry is bad. I love my Curve 8900 I just don't think they are up to the competition. OS 6 is nice but can it bring Blackberry back? Idk.

Anyway thanks to everyone who persuaded me in going with the HTC.

Probably another stupid question but will it come with the latest Android 2.3 out of the box?

Nope - you'll have to wait in line like everyone else... speculate needlessly on release dates... track the OTA from Portland ME to Portland OR and then realize that the OTA is not geographic... Post on the forum at least 3 times "Why isn't it done yet, it can't be that hard"... and then finally you will get 2.3 aka Gingerbread ;)

The sad thing is, even if that were the process, I think it?d still be a lot less frustrating and time consuming than the waiting game we all play right now.

My apologies for not looking but I'll assume there is no official release date for 2.3? How significant of an upgrade is this going to be?

The "significance" is a point of debate. It has under-the-hood upgrades, but not much difference by way of the UI, especially if HTC is putting Sense over it. I think Sense seems to be nicer than 2.3 anyway. There are also supposed to be some changes to the way colors are rendered, making them smoother.

I dont see why you would get the incredible and lock in for 2 years. When your contract is over the phone will be 3 years old. HTC and VZW are going to abandon that phone in the near future and focus on the new models. IMO the G2 and MT4G are better than the incredible.

Thanks for your input but I could always sell it 4-5 months from now. You can't keep up with cell phones. Coming from a BB Curve 8900 the Dinc's specs will definitely last 3+ years.

Well, technically 2.3 was released...by Google. The SDK is available, but as for release date from manufacturers, no official date has been given by any of them.

I think the Incredible is Incredible but Im waiting to see whats coming. Id like to see Merge since I like a keyboard.. Im sure that a week after I bought an Incredible, the HD would come out.

I've had the Incredible since June (would have had it at launch but had to wait for new every 2 and shipping delays...) and it has been and continues to be a great phone. The battery life isn't the best (the only issue I had was I drained the battery waiting for my brakes to be fixed for 5+ hours) but that is easily upgradeable. Of the phones coming out, I think the Incredible still seems to be one of the best Android phones out. It is the perfect size, has enough storage space and does everything I want it to do. They seem to keep up with updates for it (though I don't like that Verizon keeps adding stuff without giving me the option to uninstall).

Overall, its a great phone and have been happy with my decision since I got it.

I think it says alot that so many Inc owners are still keeping their phones. The nexus s is about to drop and except for front facing camera and being able to see screen a little better in bright light its not a whole lot better then the Inc. Plus this phone as been out for a little while and the aftermarket community is just churning out roms for it. not to mention the 8mp camera and the update to gingerbread that will be here soon. Im on verizon and due up for an upgrade in couple weeks but im waiting to get Gingerbread before even thinking about changing phones since at that point this phone will be running the best android has to offer.

LMAO lol. It's a phone not a laptop. I know its already way to over powered for me which is good because it'll be future proof.

Please do not be condescending. Its unnecessary and uncalled for.

The droid incredible is holds its own against the new devices which is really good to see but far from future proof. I would upgrade to the droid incredible hd if it were out now. The DInc might have enough power for you which is really good because it might be easier for you to wait till your contract is up for the new every 2 deal. I love having a device that its powerful and can do all the things I like to do (play games, which videos etc), which unfortunately involves more gpu and maybe a beyer processor. Right now the incredible holds its own but im giving it at most 6 more months before it starts to feel dated

Sent from my Droid Incredible because I'm too lazy to walk over to my computer.

I wasn't being condescending. I just found that remark to be kind of funny. Anyway, what is the difference between the Droid Incredible and the Droid Incredible HD? If I read the correct specs, the only differences seem very minor IMO. 4G capable, ability to shoot 720p video, faster processor? These are all totally irrelevant to me but I know some people probably could benefit from them.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 but this looks to be the same as the Blackberry Bold 9780 update. Very minor with only a few hardware bumps. I am kind of thinking twice with 4G because it looks like carriers are going to start charging extra or a 'premium' for it.

Sorry if my comment came off as 'condescending'. That wasn't my intention.

Great forum you guys have. I would just appreciate some input. I have a 2yr old Blackberry Curve 8900 which is good but is not up-to-date with the current smartphone age. I have T-Mobile USA and they have been ok but lets put it this way, I am willing to switch carriers. I am not under contract so I'd have no consequence. I have been eying the Verizon Wireless Android phones for a few weeks and the HTC Droid Incredible seems to be an excellent phone. I see that it was released April 2010 which makes me very skeptical about signing a new 2 yr contract with almost a year old phone?

So this is what I am asking. Is the Droid Incredible worth it since its FREE? I'd like to get a hot smartphone but would have buyer's remorse if a new phone similar to the HTC incredible came out a few months later. I know Verizon doesn't have SIM cards so selling the phone a few months on eBay or something would be impossible right?"

My apologies for being a newbie but I really value the opinions of those who have had an Android phone for a while and perhaps Verizon too.

The Dinc is most definitely still relevant and worth buying now, even with all the other Android devices that have launched since the Dinc. In fact, some tech blogs still sing the Dinc's praises.

Looking at the specs of the "brand new Nexus S," and then the specs of the "dated Droid Incredible" you would think that the Incredible is newer.

I've had mine a little over a month, my brother has had his about 6 months. Looked at some other phones and this one was still the best for me. I don't care about gaming on a phone...heck I sold my PS3 18 months ago because I didn't play it. I haven't even tried Angry Birds ;)

What do you mean about the specs exactly? The specs on the dinc still hold up but they aren't better than the nexus s. The only thing that is bigger on the dinc is the mega pixels on the camera, 8 mega pixel I think our is it 5, idk haha. I would personally take the nexus s's 5 mega pixel camera by samsung over htc's

No LED notification, no SD card slot, 5MP camera, 480p video recording (maybe??). Those jumped out at me.

The specs on this "dated" (as some are saying here) phone holds it's own when compared to the specs on a yet to be released phone. So, yes it is worth it to buy a 7.5 month old phone (it was released the last day of April). That was my point. Sorry, if I wasn't clear enough.
