Initial Infuse Thoughts and Reviews

i keep going back and forth between this, inspire, and atrix (dont wanna get the atrix bc of the loads of problems, its just who knows what the next update will do). keep in mind i have never had a touch screen phone, never mind an android. I am using my BB Curve 8310 from '07, so this is all new to me. heres my dilemma:

the infuse has everything i want (screen is AMAZING looking), yet i dont know anything about samsung and i hear touchwiz is a bit.. ehhh.. and honestly that is a big deal. but a bigger deal is the bad rep samsung has because of not keeping up with updates plus not many widgets..

i really want to go HTC.. i messed with the inspire and htc sense was great. i loved it. however, the battery life and no front facing camera could be deal breakers.. doesnt seem up to par with what else is out, which is why its $99. i wish htc had another device coming out along these lines (but obviously better specs) in the next month or 2..

atrix is one cool device (especially finger scanner) but i like the bigger screens. the hardware is the best out anywhere, yet motoblur and many other little problems kill this phone and am 90% sure it will be the reason why i dont buy this phone.

EDIT: and $30?!!?!? Thats a great deal. Where did you find that at??

Well, the word from people in the know (people who review/test phones for a living) is that the Infuse will almost certainly get Gingerbread, and very likely get Ice Cream Sandwich. It may also get the bump from TouchWiz 3.0 to TouchWiz 4.0 at some point. Frankly, TouchWiz is just fine for me. I will probably end up trying out LauncherPro, but TouchWiz is more than adequate... it's clean, colorful, fast. For me, the Inspire is a nice phone, but the SAMOLED+ of the Infuse blows it out of the water. And for the Atrix, a 4.0 inch screen is too small. I'd only 4.3 or 4.5.

Try it out tomorrow and see if you like it. Then go back to the HTC and see if the savings is worth it.

I must a agree. I have the Atrix now and trying to figure out a way of how Im gonna get this Infuse. Ive owned the Captivate and was suprised by how nice and decent the screen was. And I know for sure it blows Motorolas qHD display out of the water. But the Atrix is a good phone dont get me wrong. But since I want the bigger screen, I have the Atrix on ebay now :)

i hope we're allowed to say. i know, on some forums, they have weird rules about what they call "deal spotting". it's Radio Shack, i saw it advertised on one of these phone forums. i found it a little difficult to believe. so, i drove down to Radio Shack, went in, and sure enough..... they had Inspire's in stock and were selling them for 30bux. obviously, it requires a 2yr committment (or else i would've bought 6), but they said they could hook it up WITHOUT altering my unlimited data plan. i STILL think i'm going with the Infuse, though. it just seems like it has everything i need. i'm a little scared that, in 3 months, the SGSII will hit the shelves and you'll be able to pick up an Infuse for 80bux, but what the heck, i like the idea of being in the first few. i figure buying it ON launch day (TODAY WOOHOO) makes it less dated in 2 years when i'm due for an upgrade lol

downsides, that i see, for the Infuse - plastic (although the dummy i held was pretty solid feeling), no notification LED, and you have to remove the battery to get to the SD card. i can live with these shortcomings.

Likes.. Camera is very sharp and takes excellent pictures.
Great screen quality via the Amoled and movies look super crisp.
Battery life is really nice. It's a 1750mAh
Screen seems bigger than 4.5, especially when compared to my Inspire.
Fits well in my pocket.
Very responsive touch screen.

Dislikes. The battery cover. It is super thin and just pops into place. Wish it was more like the captivate.
The samsung interface (luckily can be changed). I'm not big on side scrolling menus. I like the inspires stock menu system.

Toss up: how light the phone is. Sometimes I forget it's even in my pocket, or it feels like a toy. Other times it just seems to be right. Hard to explain.

I keep reading that text looks a bit pixelated on the Infuse due to the lower resolution. Have you noticed that?

Thanks...

The web browser is really the only place I have noticed pixelated text. Once you zoom in a little it is fine, you just can't read it all the way zoomed out. Some sites are worse than others of course. I'm coming from the iPhone 4 so this will take some getting used to.

Hmm...is it annoying or not a big deal? I love the idea of a color rich display, but I don't know if pixelation is a workable trade-off for me. I almost think I'd rather have less vibrant color without pixelation. It all depends on how much of an annoyance it is. I guess I'll go have a look!

Thanks....

Thats true, the small text on browser is unreadable unless you zoom in a bit. I played with infuse today in the store and posted my initial thoughts in the Atrix forum (Infuse's SAmoled plus vs Atrix's qHD) I did notice that right away because even the smallest text is readable on qHD display... but Infuse got really nice vivid colors although i was not happy with the brightness of the display....

I just got home from the at&t store with mine, so far I love everything about it. I am still installing my old apps.
