Hi all, part of the process for migrating my wifes Whatsapp messages from her old iPhone to her Samsung S9+ required an older version of Whatsapp to be installed. The migration worked but now Whatsapp wont update itself. Playstore says its installed and only offers option to open or uninstall.

Legacy of the migration process is that backup to google drive isnt working but we have a local backup. But i dont think the latest version will pick up the local backup - thats why the migration required the older version!

Any suggestions regarding getting Whatsapp up to date please?

She doesnt want to lose her Whatsapp history!

Thanks.

Have you tried rebooting the device to see if now it 'sees' the update? If the older version supports backing up to Drive and you've already restored chats/media, you can just back up to Drive, uninstall that version, re-install the 'good' one, and then just restore from Drive.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes Device has been rebooted.
The "old" version that has been installed is 2.18.248 so not that old.

This version does support backup to Drive but it isn't working. This could almost be another thread in its own right, but part of the restore process I mentioned above required that backup to Drive was disabled. That was done by going into Drive settings - Manage Apps, and disconnecting Whatsapp from Drive. Trouble is I can't get it back. Going into Whatsapp backup settings and selecting the backup account throws an authentication error.. Outside of Whatsapp Drive is working find on the device using the same account.

I suspect I need to resolve this first but am stuck.

Any help appreciated.
