Can someone just please post a step by step instruction guide for installing the Skyraider rom? I know we've seen posts about this before but none have broken it down for noobs to help people like me who have no idea where to begin. It would be very helpful for those of us who have given up on waiting and are ready to root but are just not as knowledgable.

Thank you.

I'm going to try to not make this sound so bad.....but have you read anything? There are plenty of step by step guides on installing all this stuff. Some that even I followed when first learning. Installing skyraider is no different than any other ROMs with the exception of flashing the newer radio. So I'm going to make this as simple as possible. If you can't follow the links and follow step by step you don't need root. As bad as that sounds it's simply the truth. None of this is hard, just go step by step and follow the directions. Also this should have been put into the hacks section not the general Incredible section of these forums.

Download and install the Android SDK.

If you have HTC sync installed uninstall it. If you have HTC Drivers installed uninstall it. Plug your phone into your computer and turn on usb debugging. (Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> USB debugging check marked)

Once windows picks up your device you need to install the driver for "ADB Devices"

Here are the drivers for your phone. Place the contents inside a folder name "usb_driver" inside the root of your Adnroid SDK installation. I have already hacked the driver's .inf file so that it detects and works for the Incredible on both x32 and x64 installation from XP through W7.

Now to get started.

1. Install 7/27 OTA leak. (follow non-rooted directions unless you are rooted)
2. Root phone by following the prompts.
*Before you do anything else boot into recovery, should already be there,(Volume down + power) and create a nandroid backup.
3. Install ROM Manager
4. Select Skyraider 2.5.2 in ROM manager. Once it downloads select wipe data and cache. Select install.
5. Let phone reboot.
6. Done.

Doesn't get much simplier.

qazme, thanks for the info. i will say that one thing that has confused me is due to my having searched and read - there have been a lot of posts on various boards, some of which are contradictory and/or obsolete. what you are suggesting is exactly what i want to do...

Okay, rooted and forever'ed. I highly recommend paying $3.99 for the premium ROM manager. Very very nice program!

Pay for the premium Titanium Backup if you're going to be doing much of this. It beats installing each application one at a time.

Did buy Titanium. One glitch: I forgot to update the radio before rooting and going to skyraider. Everything works except... the GPS :( I went back and re-read the instructions and realized I had a brain-cramp and forgot to update the radio first. Sigh. Since I had ROM Manager and had backed up the original firmware, I used ROM Manager to roll back to that, rebooted, copied the ota_dinc.zip to the sdcard as update.zip, told ROM Manager to install that and rebooted. The home screen and everything had changed, so I thought that was a good sign. Checked the radio version. No change :( Back to clockwork mod to restore the original 2.1 with functional GPS. Any thoughts as to how to proceed? I guess I can wait for the OTA with the new radio, since I *do* have unrevoked forever installed and can get root back that way?

Since you used unrevoked forever can't you just load up the new radio in HBOOT?

I have no idea :(

Keep in mind that although I am technically savvy, I am pretty new at this particular exercise. I assume that the radio update is somewhere in the ota_dinc.zip file, but apart from that, I have no idea.

Yes the "ota_dinc.zip" file is the leaked OTA radio update. It contains an .img file that is the radio update. With unrevoked forever it doesn't do signature checking on the radios to see if one is newer or older making it possible to flash whatever you want. So with it you don't have to roll your phone back to factory fresh 2.1, flash the update, reroot, install 2.2 etc etc etc. You can just flash the radio update.

So technically if you have unRevoked forever (s-off mode), then you can place the ota_dinc.zip file onto the root of your SD card. And install it through clockworkmod recovery and all will be well. ;)

Ah, okay. Everything I saw said I did need to do that. For some reason I don't understand, although the OTA update changed wallpaper and such, the baseband version didn't update. Dunno why, so I went back to square one, did the pmg31img update via the instructions I had read, then put the ota_dinc.zip as update.zip, installed that, and after much crunching and grinding the baseband version DID update. Re-rooted with unrevoked3, re-flashed skyraider 2.5.2 and I am good to go. Thanks!

Well you got it working and that's all that matters. You would have had to have unrevoked forever installed before the update to install that radio the other way. You did it the "right" way so no worries. Have fun!
