Installing Themes

I attempted to download a custom theme over from XDA and my phone messed up

1) I have the EC05 update and I converted the EXT4 from CWM

Here's the theme

I did what was directed, and I did the 3x wipe. I then shut my phone off and did the "three finger death grip" my phone booted but then got hung up on the Samsung screen. Anyone know why?

Edited to add. If I reformat my SD card will the OTA update disappear also that I get everytime I Odin back to D18

While you should have been able to boot CWM with that method (try adding Vol Up to that mix, you may get in), your device will no longer boot because you were on a stock ROM and kernel. The stock kernel does not support EXT4.

If you can get into CWM, simply flash Twilight Zone, VisionKernel, or Genocide. Any of those will get you up and running again. If you can't get into CWM, you're going to need to Odin to stock and re-CWM3 - have one of those kernels on your SD card when you do.

When I flashed the kernel and theme, it worked but I kept getting a force close ( I think it was for Swype) and it wouldn't let go to the homepage. Any pointers on how to get it to work because I really like the way the theme looks

Clear cache and dalvik-cache in CWM, and clear data for Swype.

How do I clear data for Swype? Is it in CWM, because I can't even get the other pages because it constantly force closes

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Swype.

Sounds like you need a full wipe in CWM.

One last question for you k0nane, how do you full wipe in CMW?

I don't have it in front of me, but look for something like "Factory Reset". Whatever the exact title is, it's the... third option down if I recall correctly. Should stick right out at you.

Fix permissions in CWM.

EDIT: And make sure your theme is compatible with your ROM. Pretty much every custom ROM will have Carrier IQ removed, which requires modifying the dialer. That theme should be compatible. If you're stock, you may see unexpected results. If the permissions fix does not work, put the dialer from the stock ROM in /system/app.

Mine did this yesterday as well. I have been rooted, on cmw e and ext 4 for sometime. I had flashed to Syndicate earlier this week, wasn't happy with performance, battery in particular., so reflashed and the fc started. I had to pull battery (worried with no journaling but nothing bad happened), was able to get back to and start over.

I did the factory reset wipe 3 times, as well as the other two, flashed, and am back up with absolutely no problems. It had not looked like a bad flash, but might have been, so just start over.

Yes, it was frustrating, but now my battery (which was the reason I was trying this rom, had was still having some problems), is now humming along at great
levels, rom performs well, and added a theme that is good. I would also suggest get the phone running then go back to cwm for theme.

Key to success right there... Run that stock ROM for a bit... Play around and let that dalvik cache build up and then go back into CWM and wipe cache/dalvik and flash your theme.

Worked great, but hit a newb wall - don't see how to install wallpaper and icons via touchwiz - can copy zip or unzip file to phone but then what ?

The wallpaper just needs to be placed on your SD card, then find it using Gallery when selecting a wallpaper.

The icons require a custom launcher such as LauncherPro or ADW.

I have a problem with installing themes as well.
I downloaded a theme from the market and i have no idea where it went on my phone, and even less of a idea how to install the theme!!!
Sooo could someone help?!
