Instant Messaging

I am new to IM and using Messages on my Verizon S5. I would like to know if you can recommend an app that I can use for IM on my Win 8.1 PC that will work in conjunction with the phone app (don't want 2 separate accounts).

Thanks for your response but prior to receiving your response I spoke with Verizon and they actually have a message+ app for my PC and I like the interface. I tried Hangouts on my phone and I don't really like the interface.
