[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Definitely do not do your second thought of moving the upgrade to Line 1!!!! That will end your unlimited plan.

Instead, do what you were thinking....move the upgrade to Line 3 and upgrade from there. When the new phone arrives, just remove the SIM that comes with it and put the SIM from the S4 in it.

As for Best Buy, you need your billing password. That is different than your normal log-in at Verizon. Usually, the MMYY of your birthday. You can find out for sure by logging into Verizon as you can via your billing password there.

Thanks for your help dusoccer. I guess that answers my next question. I was planning on just removing line 3 since no one's using it, but I guess I do still need it to make the upgrades to keep UDP on the two other phones.

Back on the Note4, it's currently $299 w/ 2 year activation. Starting tomorrow, will that option go away? Will I need to upgrade to a Note4 at a higher rate (either full price over 2 years or at $200 of retail which is $559). Not sure if anyone here has insight on how upgrade prices for existing Verizon customers will differ starting tomorrow.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, I am so confused... I would like to upgrade 3 lines. Is that even possible before tomorrow? Or at least 2?

Line 1-iphone 4S unlimited data, eligible for upgrade
Line 2-iphone 4S unlimited data, eligible for upgrade
Line 3-iphone 5 unlimited data, eligible for upgrade
Line 4-iphone 4 unlimited data, eligible for upgrade
Line 5-basic phone, eligible for upgrade
Line 6-ipad, 2GB data, eligible for upgrade

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

With this setup, everything is going to be just moving SIM cards around. When the 6 gets there, just follow the directions to activate the phone on the tiered line. After you activate it, after an hour, just do the following:

1) power off the 6 on line 2 and remove its SIM.
2) take the SIM you just removed and put it in the 6 that is staying on the line. Power on this iPhone.
3) now power off the Turbo and remove its SIM.
4) put the SIM from the Turbo in the unused 6. Power on this iPhone.

That's all you need to do.

Thanks. I'm guessing if I end up giving it to Line 3, what I should do is essentially same as above but with L2/L3 so:

1) Activate the 6 on Line 2 with the SIM it shipped with. After 1 hr, power off the 6 on line 2 and remove its SIM.
2) Take the SIM from new i6 and put it in 'old' i6 and power up old i6.
3) Power off i5 and remove its SIM.
4) Put i5 SIM into new i6 and turn on

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Upgraded to iPhone 6 via BBM/Basic Line upgrade. Destroyed sim, threw an udp sim in to test, and boom Contract extension, no Data Plan added, and I need to move to the 1400 Plan, 6 days left in cycle but theres No Pending Activation at all? Can I safely do a min plan change while it lets me? Main concern is it Adding a data plan on the Basic Line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So does it look like our subsidized upgrades and two year contracts are in tact? The slickdeals thread seems to indicate it. I transferred an upgrade from my UDP L2 to a TDP L1 using the forever method on Verizon. The iPhone 6 is still in transit through Fedex. It is scheduled to arrive today. Do you think I can refuse delivery, and get my upgrade restored to the UDP line without too much risk of losing my UDP?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Verizon's site no longer offers 2 Year Contracts as an option for a phone Upgrade! :( Best Buy still shows it as an option, though idk for how much longer... Somebody with an Upgrade Available check and see if the Verizon site has an option to get a 2 Year contract

Yes, if Line 3 is an unlimited line. Obviously, if it is a tiered line than you just upgrade it directly.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

On VZW site I just started an upgrade on a line with an available upgrade and the option for a subsidized phone with a 2yr contract was there. I did not complete it, but it was there.

I just did the process up to checkout. 2 year contract was selected throughout.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Obviously we are just learning about this now, and I am popping into this thread for the first time in a while with a pressing question that may or may not have been addressed: How will this impact our UDP lines and will we be able to continue with this strategy in the coming months/years?

Ok we know now it still checks out with the older plans as being able to select a two year contract but I was looking at the site as a new customer and they no longer offer it that way. So score one for Nationwide Plans once again. Just set back and wait and see what else happens especially with 3rd Party Retailers.

Should have clarified. So initially I planned to transfer UDP upgrade to Line 3 (TDP - not upgradable till mid 2016). When I tried to transfer it both via Verizon and BB, it was telling me Line 3 is upgradeable through Early Edge so it wasn't accepting the UDP upgrade transfer. I had to transfer the UDP upgrade to Line 2 (also TDP - not upgradable till late 2016), purchase the phone for Line 2, and am likely going to give the new phone to L3.

So I need to make sure I know the steps for activating on Line 2 and eventually switching to Line 3 (if I keep it myself for the UDP line, I know to just swap SIMS with my current UDP Turbo)

I did the same... Looks like true to form Verizon in still allowing grandfathered plans to upgrade with 2 year contracts.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Trying to figure out the best method for putting new phone on my UDP line.

I just upgraded a tiered line through Verizon Online Store. When the phone arrives what should I do to place this new phone on the UDP line?

Should I just take out the SIM and put UDP sim in phone or do I need to activate the new phone on Tiered line first?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Looking to snag a Note 5 without losing my UDP. I only have 1 line and it is eligible for an upgrade. Is there any way I can use my upgrade in this situation without losing the UDP? If not, what are my options for getting a Note 5 without losing the UDP? Thanks for your help.

I would active on the tiered line first, wait an hour or so, check online at vzw.com that it registers, make a call, etc. Then swap SIM cards. I just did the exact thing 2 days ago. Worked fine.

I have the same question, and also can we pre-order, with this method?
Thank you.

Gotcha. You are correct in the steps. Since everything uses a nano-SIM, you just need to put the right SIM in the right phone.

Ultimately, it depends on the phone you currently have, but the only method that really works is:

1.) Through Best Buy online, upgrade to a Note 5 and have the phone shipped to home
2.) When it arrives, do not try to charge or turn it on
3.) Remove the SIM that ships with the Note 5. Destroy this SIM
4.) Power off your current phone and remove its SIM
5.) Put the SIM from your current phone into the Note 5. Turn on the Note 5

Now, just wait a couple of minutes and you'll be all set.

As long as the phone can be shipped, you can pre-order. With a single line, you have to use Best Buy:

1.) Through Best Buy online, upgrade to a Note 5 and have the phone shipped to home
2.) When it arrives, do not try to charge or turn it on
3.) Remove the SIM that ships with the Note 5. Destroy this SIM
4.) Power off your current phone and remove its SIM
5.) Put the SIM from your current phone into the Note 5. Turn on the Note 5
