Insurance Options... Cancelling TEP

This I would be interested in hearing more about over the long term. Since normally any time you make a claim on your insurance regardless of auto/home it normally starts to put you in the negative which come renewal time of your insurance (quarterly/6 mth/yearly) you will see an increase in your cost. Granted most insurance companies won't nail you on the first claim but multiple claims in a year or so will usually cause this to happen.

Just not sure if its work driving up the overall price of my car/home insurance over a string of bad luck with my smartphone from insurance claims.

Thoughts?

I had planned on going through my homeowners, but if they don't consider it desperate from my other policy, then i may get a seperate policy with a different company. I will have to look into that.

I understand why there's the need for insurance, but at some point the cost exceeds the benefit. It's $528 for TEP for my wife and I over the 2 year period. That's a lot of money and doesn't even include the $150 deductible if needed. At some point you just take your chances.

I think you have a misunderstanding about the nature of insurance. It never has been and never will be a benefit neutral consumer good. What you are purchasing is peace of mind. Sliding the numbers is a fool's hollow because you have no way of knowing when that strike of bad luck is going to hit. It could hit in two weeks following by another hit six months later and then two months after that. Or it could never hit at all. But what you are buying is a policy that relieves you of a huge financial burden should that bad luck strike.

I have had comprehensive and collision insurance on my paid off vehicle for several years. I have never had a claim. I never think about whether the cost is greater than the benefit because if some uninsured motorist were to total my car, I have that peace of mind that I will get a check so I can at least put a sizable down payment on a new car.

Of course you can take your chances, but I have to say in all my years of living, every person I know didn't buy insurance and then got hit with bad luck expressed much more grief over not having insurance than the person who does pay insurance premiums and never has a claim.

I agree on the cost.. Its one of those your burned if you do, burned if you don't situations...

For me, since I happen to have had my share of bad luck over the last few years its paid off. I've had my old BB replaced with refurb 2 times, a Palm Pixie replaced, gone through about 5 refurbed Epic 4g's for various reasons along with in store repairs and 1 NS4G replaced. So for me its be a win win situation. YMMV
Wow, yeah it seems to depend each persons experiences. I'm kinda on the fence to be honest with the EVO 4G LTE I purchased directly through Sprint.

I went without TEP or Insurance for the entire length of time with the original EVO 7/10 - 5/12. I'm responsible/careful with my phones. I had to send it in to an HTC service center in Texas twice during the first year warranty for USB connector(repair) and random reboots(replacement) one month before the warranty expired. I did not have a backup phone. So it ended up costing approx $30? in shipping and two months with Boost/Virgin phones $90?

I may end up upgrading at the end of the 1 year warranty this time. So it's either I keep the EVO as a backup or sell it and ???

If I could just walk right into a Corp Store and if needed have it replaced on the spot or repaired, THAT I would interested in!

Well I'm going prepaid next month, so what are my options?

That maybe the case for the OG Evo, trust me you bust a screen on a newer device and that $35 won't make a dent in the cost of the screen.

Reason I say this is you Google a replacement screen for the EVO 4g and they average about $30-$35, so that fits the bill.. Average price on newer phones is well over $100 or better.

Of course that type of $35 replacement fee is also at the discretion of the store/tech and their policies. I wouldn't expect the same treatment in all Sprint repair locations.

Well...maybe, maybe not. http://is.gd/ZtZRCY $18 for a replacement screen for Evo 3d.

Got me there ;)
