Intelligent Scan - Samsung's answer to Face ID?

Apparently Samsung will unveil their new Intelligent Scan feature on the S9. It's something that will combine a Face Unlock feature and their Iris Scanner.

What do you make of this? Do you think it'll be less accurate or more accurate than Face ID on the iPhone? Also, you think Samsung will make the feature available to older phones via update??

I hope it's not their answer to FaceID, or we're in for something equally as bad, from failure rate to lack of security. I'd be willing to bet it's a lot more reliable and secure than FaceID.

Wait how is faceid insecure again? All data is saved in a secure chip on the phone and can't be fooled by a picture like Samsung's.

1. Samsung's Iris scan cannot be fooled by pictures. Pictures aren't able to capture iris patterns.

2. The last time Android FaceID was fooled by pictures was like 4 years ago. They've implemented various increased security like requiring you to blink when unlocking.

3. Apple's FaceID has been known to make mistakes. There are issues in the Chinese market where it can't tell them apart.

4. FaceID can be unlocked by holding the phone to your face. The Iris scanner cannot be unlocked by that alone.

Another rumour is a blood flow sensor, presumably using fingerprint sensor that unlocks the device. They reckon your smart watch will authenticate you using this technology and unlock the phone too...

If you Google search 'Face ID tricked' you'll find a number of times it was fooled and/or hacked.

So basically just a bit more difficult than fooling FaceID by Apple which has been fooled by a 3D printed face sculpture. If you read the article, not just any picture will do. You need to get a picture using a camera with infrared sensors and a good enough image quality to capture iris patterns, print it out to exact same size as a contact lens before you can use it. Therein you first have the problem of getting the picture in the first place.

Fooling Face ID is as simple as get a cellphone and use a 3D printer. The problem herein is the silicone nose.

All in all both hacks are just too much trouble for random hackers to do on random people. Targeted individuals need more concern though.

Exactly...thank you. In everyday use, nobody is going to fool the Iris Scanner. It’s as good as it gets right now besides fingerprint authentication
