Interesting processor fact....

I called verizon today because my sim card was having problems connecting to 4G, the guy asked me how i liked my phone i told him i wish it was duel core, he told me that the reason this phone isn't duel core is because it has 2 dedicated processors inside of it. One processor is strictly for data and calls and the snapdragon is strictly for apps and things that make the phone crazy fast. He said the phone originally was tested as 1.5Ghz single core and then 1.2 Ghz and then finally stayed at 1 Ghz. He said they tested it at 3 different speeds and all were equal in speed with this dedicated processor idea. After my phone was fixed i called VZW again and spoke to a new tech and asked about this and he confirmed this again. This makes me feel soo much better because its like having the speeds of a duel core with a single core.

Its true.

The phone has a snapdragon data processor, and an MDM 9600 connectivity board. This is because Qualcomm has NO multi-mode LTE all in one chipsets available yet.

Nope. Only the first generation of LTE phones on Verizon will have it, because the multi-mode SOCs will be out next year.

Basically what that means is that current snapdragons have built-in support for certain networks and frequencies. Right now LTE isn't one of them, so they have a separate chip for that (like the EVO does for WIMAX).

It's unclear how much of an impact this will have on application performance since the EVO is (maybe not so) noticably slower than the Dinc in day to day use.

The real question is whether or not that chip has any processing built in or if it's just a radio that the Snapdragon still has to control. At any event this still doesn't make up for a second CPU core. I'm fairly certain that the Bionic will also have an alternative chip for LTE.

Just my $.02 based on internet reading and experience with the EVO.

what is that?

A system on a chip (like the snapdragon) with integrated wireless modems and radios. Qualcomm's first multi-mode CDMA/EVDO/LTE Snapdragon chipsets won't be in production until later this year, so they had to improvise for the thunderbolt. The Snapdragon in the Bolt is the MSM8655, which only has CDMA/EVDO connectivity. Obviously, they needed LTE, so they shoe-horned in the MDM9600 chipset to provide that. The MDM is essentially the chipset for a USB data stick, but its the only option Qualcomm had.

Also, its going to be a while before we see any truly multi-mode dual-core snapdragons in Verizon phones, because the LTE chips (the 8900 series) are still a fair ways off. So Bolt owners, don't get too upset about not having dual-core, because no HTC LTE phones will have it for at least a year.

The Bionic uses a Tegra 2. Moto has never really used Qualcomm chips in their high end android phones.
