Can someone tell me where you store pics at in the phone? Or are they always stored on sd???

If they are taken with the camera then yes they are stored only on the SD card.

They are in a directory on your sd card called DCIM.

Also there may be some pix in the "photographs" folder on the SD card. Both this folder and the DCIM (as well as videos) are shown when you touch the Gallery Widget.
