Internal Storage

doesn't hold a candle?? hmm.. bigger stock battery, more efficient second gen. snapdragon, more RAM, global phone..

agreed. saying the Inc2 doesn't compare well with the original Inc isn't accurate. i've used both phones side-by-side for a couple days now - the Inc2 is the best of the two. better-looking screen. bigger screen. typing in portrait is much easier. newer Sense. the list of improvements goes on...

the internal memory issue is resolved with an SD card, for the most part. big deal - buy a 32GB card. :)

For those with this phone now... I wondered if the phone handles installing apps to the SD card automatically or is this still a manual process via the settings as with other android froyo devices.

I ask because of a concern I have with the limited internal storage already noted in this thread. I'm very intrigued by this phone, but knowing that they've slashed the internal storage of 8 gb that the original DINC had in favor of this 1 gb I'm on the fence on a purchase of one.

I do understand that it's possible to add a 32 gb card to balance things out, but other data will build up over time too (calendar, contacts, SMS etc) so any comments on how app storage etc is handled from those with the phone is welcomed.

Thanks

If you don't need global which I don't. I prefer the 3.7 Mine is still quite fast and has more memory.
It has LESS RAM than the original Incredible.

Also people seem to have issues that I have never had with my original. It is a personal preference.
I have played with the new Incredible for quite awhile and it isn't worth an upgrade for me. If it had the same stylish looks and quality build and offered more then maybe, but it doesn't.

hmm are you sure about that? i've seen the specs - Inc2 RAM = 768, Inc RAM = 512? Storage is not the same RAM.

Verdict on Internal Storage

Now that the phone is out, I'm curious to know if anyone is having a problem with the 1GB onboard storage? I have a Droid 2 Global, and I am thinking about switching. The D2G has 8GB of onboard storage and I have about 3GB worth of apps right now. I also know that not all apps can be installed on the SD card.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has found this to be a problem.

I have a bunch of stuff installed and probably 5 or 6 games and still have 700+MB of available storage.

3GB of apps is insane, what do you have installed?

I certainly don't mean to hijack this thread, but this seems like a good place to ask this.

Yesterday, I installed at least 2 apps (Dolphin browser & that 75MB game that Amazon gave away). With normal work-related use of the phone - just barely tested the game for a few minutes - I started seeing a notification: "Application data space is low. To free up space..." (couldn't read the rest).

Why would I see this message if I have plenty of storage?

SD card:

  • Total 7.61GB
  • Available 4.84GB
Internal phone storage:

  • Total 6.60GB
  • Available 6.46GB
Phone memory:

  • Total 748MB
  • Available 278MB
Was it a bad app, perhaps?

Thank you!

Thank you, Frank! I appreciate the tip.

No problem. I got the recommendation from the original Incredible thread while researching the data low bug for a co-worker.

Someone in one of the threads made mention of a HTC service rep stating the bug is related to apps that exceed their memory capacity on the phone. So say an app grows to 30MB but is only allowed to grow to 20MB, the phone will kick off errors on this.

Also keep in mind to not nut just look at downloaded apps but also any installed apps. While helping the same coworker he found that the Facebook for HTC Sense app was using 28MB of storage and I advised him to dump the data and remove the account from settings->accounts section if he is using the official facebook app.

I pulled the trigger and bought the Inc2 today. So I'll see for myself. Though I'm thinking it won't be a problem. I am noticing very weak reception about 20db less than my D2G. I'll posting this in another thread.
