International version on AT&T

Anyone using the international version on AT&T? I just ordered one today and was wondering if anyone was having any issues using it on AT&T and what experiences with it were.

None for me.

About the only thing I notice is the 3G symbol in the notification area changes from 3G to H and back as you download a page. I suspect the phone puts up an H when it gets data faster than some arbitrary rate. Other than that it causes no problems.

Some bemoan the loss of AT&T visual voice mail, but I can't see why anyone would use that when you can have Google Voice for free. (You can sideload VV if you really want it).

Icebike's experience echos mine completely. I even went a step further a month later and put it on Straight Talk with no issues.

Great phone, and zero complaints about AT&T while using it.

I just got one that I'm using on Straight Talk (which uses AT&T's 3G/HSPA network) and it's working perfectly fine. The htc wifi hotspot feature even works!

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that.

I doubt they can even detect you are using it either.

When you have that feature in your plan, AT&T uses different access point names in your apn list.
Thedr aren't found on the international version.

Thanks for the response guys!! I am super excited to get this phone. Did you guys have to download "more locale" to be able to select US English? Also, any special apn's I need to enter for AT&T or do I just use the "Cingular 410" APN?

You just get your sim from at&t and don't worry about the apns.

If you take it in to at&t make sure they do not try to set up the sim as if it was an at&t LTE model. Some know it all service reps will insist they know what they are doing and ignore you.

No other downloads needed.

I was visiting the US (Portland) last week and had issues with my TMobile US sim card that has always worked in other HTC Android devices and was giving no data connection on my HTC One X International version (saying no sim card detected on APN screen). I popped into AT&T and they said the only sim that would work was LTE. Was this just poor information or do these things change regionally?

I'm from the UK and have little knowledge of the US wireless market.

Yes, it was poor information.
They thought you had an LTE phone and we were ignorant of the international version. This is a constant risk with at&t since they started selling the LTE version. You really have to grab them by the lip jewelry and tell them yours is a umts/HSPA phone.

A t-mobile micro sim might work, but not everywhere as in some market areas t-mo uses 1700 band only, which your phone doesn't have. Usually they have at least Edge service on other bands and maybe all you needed was to manually enter the apn numbers, or just a new t-mo sim.

If you have a t-mo sim, why didn't you visit them?

I did visit Tmobile, and they tried the new APN etc... to no avail. That's very useful info about the LTE/HSPA because he suggested the only mini sims they had were LTE. Next time I'll make a point to ask for the correct one!!

A sim is just a sim till they provision it.
There's no such thing as an LTE sim vs a UMTS/HSPA sim. Itd just raw storage till they write it.

Your HOX needs a Micro sim, not a mini sim. Just like any iPhone 4.

Yeah I just remembered one other potentially important detail...

I need a prepaid/pay as you go sim. Does that matter with AT&T? Sorry for coming across rather dumb, the US wireless market is totally different to the UK and navigating it is tricky from this side of the pond...
