Hello everyone

Just got a new Nexus 4 16Gb and was wondering if it would be possible somehow to receive internet when connected to a PC.
I am aware you can receive it via WIFI. Totally new to the Android system having been with Blackberry for quite a while until recently.

Welcome to the forum!

Why would you do that? Your PC is probably 10 times the screen size with a wonderful keyboard. It seems like if your that close to your pc, you would just use your pc.

Maybe OP doesn't have wi-fi, and the pc is hooked to a router via Ethernet. :-P

Look for the pc's "share internet connection" function. Then tether the N4 to the pc. ;-)

Don't root your phone just to tether it from your PC. Just go somewhere with Wi-Fi. I'm sure your local coffee shop has it. If not McDonald's does.

Hello Greydarrah. That would be (at least in my case) for situations when there is no WiFi available and you want to update apps on your phone, or run applications that require an internet connection.

Maybe they're stuck in one place and don't have WiFi or Cell service. Or maybe they have cell service but are out of their data allotment.

A few things I could want a data connection for that I wouldn't necessarily want to go on my computer screen:

Playing an internet based game (Word with Friends, etc)
Seeing if I have visual voicemail.
Staying connected to my google voice
Keeping my notifications up to date without having to go to all my different sites
Listen to Pandora through my bluetooth (my work computer doesn't have Bluetooth)
Internet messaging (whatsapp, viber, etc)
Park mobile

I'm sure there are more, but please don't fall into the category of people who think "If I don't use it, then it must not matter".

Hello all.
Your posts are very informative.
If you are on a computer with several users, or on a network (at work, for example) you will need to have administrator rights to do this.
I tried but I couldn't finish setting it up, because of the administrator password.

Thanks
