I was on the site today and saw that Sprint is EOL the EVO.

Just thought I would pass this on to you guys. Has anyone heard about this ?
I have a friend who just got this phone because I suggested it to her since she couldn't afford Verizon.
She left T Mobile and she loves this phone !

Hey guys, I just got my EVO three days ago and am loving it, bit now wonder if I should swap it for something else due to it being ended?

I really do love the phone and everything about with the exception of the battery life, Since I'm new to Android I'm also wondering about rooting...

I just have a couple of questions though. I see these apps about controlling CPU speed and some for battery calibration. I would like to use them but they all clearly state they only work on "rooted" devices.

The "rooting" seems like something I could do, but my question is, could I stop there, or would I have to install custom ROM's and kernels? I wouldn't mind rooting my EVO if I could end it there. I like it the way it is and don't really wanna change anything, like I said, I just need better battery life.

So, my questions:

Ditch the EVO I just got?

Root for better battery life?

And finally, will "rooting" void my warranty?

Also, sorry if I accidentally veered off thread topic, I just really want your input.

Thanks so much.

It seems weather or not rooting voids warranty is a matter of opinion. I, myself, don't worry about it because I pay for TEP and would just use that. I just got rooted Sunday and ran stock Rom until that night and did not see a dramatic increase in battery life so kernels and roms do help with that. I wouldn't ditch it because its gonna be phased out. A year ago this was sprints only 4g phone, now photon is out + nexus s and Samsung gx2. I would ask myself what could those phones do that EVO can't. Some have dual core processors, some have super amolded screens. But they're all 4g, they're all 2.3.3 (nexus s is 2.3.4 but nexus prime will be out within months). So is a dual core processor and display worth $500 to me? No. That's a new laptop for me. Are some of those phones faster than EVO? Well i doubt its like comparing a Ford Taurus to a Ferrari. The bottom line for me is EVO might be a 8.5 while those phones might be a 9. IMO NONE OF THEM BLOW THIS PHONE OUT OF THE WATER. If battery life is your concern root and install a custom Rom. But IMO the EVO is still in sprints top 3. I'd say 1.) Samsung gx2 2.) MOTO Photon 3.) EVO or EVO 3D. Research the specs. Lastly it depends on YOU and what you like/need in a phone. The photon isn't without its issues. Check the forum, there's a guy with a photon and his wife has EVO 4g and he's jealous of EVO. Now when ICE CREAM SANDWICH drops then I'll consider upgrading. The last thing I want to say is make sure you're realistic with your battery expectations. Any phone you upgrade to you want it to be more POWERFUL than EVO right? Well these aren't flip phones that you only use to call and text. They're mini tablets and with all that they can do its going to drain battery. You can't have it both ways without minimizing apps and use of phone. I'm not saying you're not being realistic, let me make that clear, I'm saying make sure you are because with all these phones do, they don't run on air.
