iOS user thinking of switching

I came from an iPhone 4 and have had a One for about 5 months now. I'm still on the fence.

Despite the bigger screen, I don't think the One is any easier to read than the iPhone and pictures are just slightly better to view on the One. Messaging and voicemail aren't as smooth on the One. iPhone apps for the most part are better than Android apps, there are exceptions. Battery life is better on the iPhone, although I haven't really had any issues with the One, I get through the day without any problems. The iPhone definitely is easier to work with one handed. I miss the home button from the iPhone.

On the plus side for the One, I like having the notification LED. I like the back button. Swiftkey keyboard is much easier to type on than the iPhone keyboard and word prediction rocks. Bluetooth connections seem to work better. The main reason I'm keeping the One is the google integration. The iPhone can sync with your google calendar, but it's slow and I've had issues with multiple calendars. On the One it's seamless. Being able to open links inside apps into Chrome is nice as well. Email/Gmail works well on both, so a tossup there.

There both nice phones but I don't think it's worth the effort to switch from one to the other. I'd just stick with whichever you're using.

I would say it's worth it. Always worth trying both sides then deciding. I left iPhone along time ago and will never ever go back. I wouldn't of known I'd like Android this much if I didn't give it a try for myself.. Not others opinions.

Having everything from Apple, Mac/Time Capsule/Apple TV/iPad mini/iPhone 5, I'm going for the challange. Beeing bored by IOS and disapointed after the introduction of the iPhone 5S/IOS7, I pre ordered the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

I was worried about the switch but this thread helped al lot! Thanks for that!

Getting my Note 3 on 9-27!

If anyone has more tips for me, that would be great!

I did the same thing a couple of months ago. I waited for a device like the HTC one to come along. I ended up giving it to my son which I regret because the s4 I have now doesn't quite match up to the One. Although I do like the s4. I'm going to get note 3 soon. And I was the biggest apple fan boy at what time but apple was stubborn and wouldn't get a bigger screen for iPhone nor did they do anything innovative with iOS. I have macbook pro and apple TV which are great. They have just fallen behind competition with the iPhone. I love Android now. Don't get me wrong their are a few things I miss but nothing that would make me go back.

Congrats! My biggest piece of advice is to keep an open mind. By that I mean, you are undoubtedly set in the Apple ecosystem at the moment, and regardless of anyone's opinion of which platform may be better, the one thing everyone can agree on is that they are different. You may have to take a different route to get from "point A" to "point B" from time to time. If you can't figure something out, just the good folks here!

Also, Not sure if this was already mentioned in this thread, but do make sure to dis-associate your mobile phone number with iMessage before switching phones, otherwise you may have some issues receiving texts from iPhone users.

Google Music isn't available here :(

Only on disagreement I never connect my iPhone to my computer. I connected once to sync music, and now when I purchase new tracks they automatically download. Everything else contacts, calendar, Mail etc, is in the cloud. These days, even with the iPhone there is little reason to connect your device.

Here's my 2 cents... actually, here's some words worth thousands of dollars (in my opinion)...

Let's just say that if it weren't for the release of the HTC One, I would probably be using an iPhone right now.

My complaints about HTC One at this point: NONE

The HTC One is like the Windows 7 of Microsoft. Stable & fast.

Had a question since this thread was closest to my thoughts. This is a general android question but since I'm specifically looking at the htc one I figured I would ask here.

Haven't used an android device as my main device since the evo 3d. yea my sig says evo lte, had it briefly and returned it, need to change that, but back on topic. I keep an evo 4g around that I use to satisfy my urge to switch phones. I left android for ios for stability. I was tired of the freezing and random reboots when I woke my phone from sleep or just general navigation. the evo 4g is dated and if I keep using that as my benchmark I'll never come back to android. My iphone serves my needs perfectly but I want to come back to android Im just apprehensive. finally my question. For those who switched from ios and those who can be as unbiased as possible how is the experience nowadays? does android/htc one suffer from freezing, excessive crashing, lag, or any instability issues? for those who have owned it for several months is there any decrease in responsiveness? all customizing aside I just want a phone that works and is reliable for more than 5 months before being plagued with stability issues. Iphone isnt perfect and Ive had crashes here and there, but as a whole its the most reliable phone I have had to date. Im on a iphone 5 for those wondering.

I can read reviews all day but nothing beats real world experience. I know I'll have to get the phone and judge for myself just wondering if any of you thought android was truly stable enough to return to? thanks for any input

I have had my HTC One for 5 weeks now. I love it. I have never owned anything Apple (not the place to discuss why) but I have owned two HTC phones. My last phone an HTC Hero and this one an HTC One. After 5 weeks of use I have absolutely no slow down at all. I have installed numerous apps and my phone is just as fast as the day I received it. My One is extremely fast, never lags, and has never crashed. I have only rebooted the phone 1 time in 5 weeks. That was 3 weeks ago when I updated to 4.3. I would buy this phone again in a heart beat. My only gripe is I feel the camera is a bit weak. I don't have the purple tint that some people have. But I just can't seem to take a crisp clear picture. But that is my mistake for not reading up on the camera part of the One before I bought it. I have the Sprint version and was very lucky that I only paid $49 through Amazon.com with a contract extension. Also let me add that I love the dual speakers on the One. I really love my HTC One.

a few things that drive me personally mad that i miss now (but i'll handle it ;) )

- Iphone's silence/vibrate switch.
- no way of activating the phone besides the on button.
- no easy way of using the volume rocker as camera shutter.
- no swipe sideways in browser to go back/forward.
- other software gimmicks that i currently try to tweak for my needs.

if those thing will make you extremely frustrated, then the ONE is not for you.

Thanks for the input..those are adjustments I can make not deal breakers ..I'm most concerned wit stability How long have you owned the one coming from iPhone?

Noticed any freezing or excessive lag or slow down in that time?

Been tweaking and exploring for 2 days with perfect fluidity and zero freezing.
upgraded to 4.3 and all is great.
My advice - make the switch, by the time you'll consider staying or going back there'll be the iphone 6 with a bigger screen and you'll have a better choice. How's that? :D

My wife has an HTC One and my kids have iPhone 5's so I am very familiar with both devices. I have a Nexus 4. My wife was going back and forth on getting a iPhone or an HTC One. I convinced her to get the Android. Honestly I wanted this phone to be amazing and for some things it's great. The screen is nice and the build is great. But I was really disappointed with HTC sense and the user experience in general. It runs pretty well but recently she had a few issues with slow down and lag. I resolved it by deleting a bunch of large text threads and a few other things but I still think the phone is just "okay". I wouldn't trade it straight across for my Nexus 4. Even the camera is a bit hit and miss on the HTC One.

If it's an option my suggestion is for you to get the Nexus 5. It's just the most reliable and efficient phone in the Android universe. It is as close as you can get to an iPhone experience.

If the Nexus isn't an option I would then suggest the Samsung Note 3, S4 or the LG G2.

Don't get me wrong the HTC is still a good phone but I am surprised by the glowing reviews. All of the other phones I suggested will be better than the HTC in my opinion. The cameras are way better and the battery will be better. My wife's phone never lasts her a full day. The Nexus battery isn't great but certainly as good as the HTC and iPhone 5. For the price and clean ui it's nearly a perfect phone. Fast, reliable and efficient.
