iPad Mini resolution no match for Nexus 7.

As opposed to Nexus 7 buyers who bought 3.5 months ago?

N7 was $249, I'm fine with that type of product cannibalism. Some folks spent upwards of $800 for their "new" ipads 6 months ago to be told today they were suckers simply paying a premium as early adopters.

I dunno... think they did a pretty good job at 329. Smart to keep the same pixel dimensions of iPad2 for app compatibility. Aluminum, cameras, larger screen, thinner, lighter, more battery. Face it, Apple stuff costs more... 79 bucks over the N7 isn't that big a deal. I think it will do well.

No real remorse over my decision for an N7... but would like to see better apps soon on Android for tabs. Apple has a big head start here.

It's not $70 over the Nexus 7..that $329 price point is for 16GB only. For 32GB is $429 which is $170 more than the Nexus 7.

I think Apple shot themselves in the foot since they didn't put Retina in there. It probably made sense, but I found it ridiculous that they would release something non Retina this year.

A new better model is just that. At least the new ones weren't $50 cheaper. The difference is lost on me; it is to be expected in tech.

There's a huge difference between adding an additional 16GB to a product in 3.5 months and doubling your processing speed in a product 7 months later. The iPad 3 owners have been hosed. The Nexus 7 owners have the exact same device but with less storage, it's not the same thing at all.

Exactly!

Oh damn! Sorry man. This has to suck. Just... Damn. :(

Then again.. I did buy a $500 gift card for $385 to purchase it and it does do everything I ask and is not slow at all. Guess I can't complain too much.

I may get the mini. Not sure.

If I want to use a front facing camera, I can just look in the mirror.

I don't use it and not worth Apple's price tag. Amazon has a great device too, awesome screen and speakers, has the power to keep up with the N7 and they sell theirs for $199. The amazon ecosystem and being locked kills it though, but then isn't that iOS also??

Agreed. Its one thing to get 16GB more storage for the same price of $249 but to pay a premium of $600-800 then see everything upgraded in less than 6 months and I mean everything down to the processor and charging port (!!!)? That's a slap in the face and a kick in the balls.

Yes, tech moves fast but those that bought an iPad 3 have every reason to be pissed off because their device just got replaced in less than 6 months! Wow, that's a little too fast. What's next? Product line refresh every other month?!? GTFO. Seriously.

I expect to get 9-12 months out of a product before I see the upgraded version for sale especially at the price point Apple charges! IJS

Yup. This.

I like this Twitter quote: iPad Mini - you'll get half the performance at 65% of the price.

If it had higher res like the N7 and was under $300 then I would have sold my N7 and ordered a mini n a heartbeat. But at 1024x768 and at $329 its a total deal breaker. Does the non cell version even have GPS? Yeah, the iPad mini is a waste of money.

While I am all for the discusion of the pros and cons of the device with respect to the N7, the fact that their stock price is following the current market trends, and that there is an improved iPad seems to have little bearing here.

It has a better front camera. A decent rear one the N7 completely lacks. Better speakers. Much better build (something I would pay the love to pay the extra $79 bucks for to get in the N7), and much better apps (at the moment - hopefully this changes soon).

I went with the N7 for GPS and the open file system and am happy with it, but I am not too stubborn to acknowledge what is better about the Apple product.

I can't help but think that they half-assed this Mini.

I think Apple is going to sell a ton of these, particularly the 16gb ones. It's not nearly the value of the N7, but there are plenty of people who are sold into the Apple ecosystem that would love a cheaper, more portable tablet that plays nicely with all their other Apple stuff.

That said, I'm happy with my N7, and see nothing to the iPad Mini that tempts me at all to buy one. It's a typical Apple product - good but not great specs at a premium price. Maybe a worthwhile purchase to those sucked into all things Apple, but I've purposefully avoided that.

They did. It's the iPad 2 specs from 2 years ago shrunk down to a smaller form factor.

However, they will sell a ton of them, which goes without saying. Oh wait, I just said it. DOH!
