iPad or Tab

Itunes is the main reason I cannot bring myself to get an ipad. I can do more with my Evo in a browser than on an ipad (like download files).

Ugh...itunes just BLOWS. For some reason, mine started crashing today every single time I connect my itouch (I've already researched the issue; there's no clear solution). It's funny: I can connect my Palm Pre to it just fine, but not a stinking Touch.

What's the point of what I'm saying? Since I can't connect my Touch to itunes, it can't sync properly. No sync, and your Apple device (Touch, Pad, ipod) becomes practically UNUSABLE. My $200 mobile device is now crippled because it relies on a stinking piece of crap software; my daughter doesn't understand why games don't open for her anymore. Luckily, the Touch is getting old anyway, so I won't be heart-broken if I have to junk it. Can you imagine something like this ruining your iPad experience, though?!

So NO THANKS; I'll take (well, I DID) a Tab any day over anything Apple. A stand-alone product beats a parasitic one any day, in my book.

What has always puzzled me, is with the world making things "smaller": cell phone, MP3 players, netbooks...WHY IN THE WORLD DID STEVE JOBS THINK BIGGER IS BETTER with that outrageous 10" size for iPad???? Just look at the range of sizes of the iPod: from Nano to iTouch to Classic, you can customize exactly the needs and price point that you want. But with iPad, it's a "take it or leave it" attitude!

I did 4 months of intense, hard-core research when I knew that my business needed a tablet. If I had known, for one milli-second, that Jobs was going to make the next iPad a 7" or 8" version, I would have gotten one of them. But, when he summarily scoffed at the 7" size and called it a "Tweener", that's when I decided to not put any money into Apple's coffers.

Look at what you use EVERY DAY that is within the 7" footprint (especially if you're a woman): my French-style wallet is 7" x 3.5"; all my paperback books are within that range; my Kindle is exactly the same size and photos that I print out at 5" x 7". WHY would I want to drag a 10" anything around with me, 24/7? I mean, seriously???

I shop at upscale grocery stores: Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Treasure Island in Chicago. Money is flowing out of people's pockets at these places. To date, I have never seen an iPad being used for shopping at ANY of these stores, but I sure have seen the Galaxy Tab's being used throughout, for shopping. Last week, while eating at Whole Foods and using their free Wi-Fi, there were four Gal-Tab owners sitting at the tables, too, so we all banned together, ate lunch and shared the joys of our tablets. I dont' see that happening with the iPad. And just as I'd hate reading a 10" book, I'd hate reading a book from a 10" tablet!

Nope, Steve's insistance that anything less than the sacred number 10" is inferior, is keeping those of us Lesser Beings from adding to his sales figures. Now that the Gal-Tab is coming out with a Wi-Fi version only, I'm picking up three of them for friends who can't afford them but dont' need the 3G option.

And I could give a Rat's Arse about Honeycomb. My tablet is flawless as it is.

This is great thread. I'm planning to buy Tab or iPad. I'm confuse which is the best.

The 7" size is much more portable.

os (big droid fan here)

The size does ring true for portability, the OS 2.2 (and hopefully 2.3.3, ahem Samsung) has so many apps that can be up scaled to fit the devices screen without causing pixel distortion.

Here is one thing to keep in mind, if you suddenly find your iDevice (phone, pad etc) is having issues, you can't hard reset and download your stuff again. Not until you get to your computer, which is likely @ home since you chose to be mobile. Not an issue with Android, now is it.

Be smart, Be mobile, Be free to make your choice and most of all think of what you want out of your tablet and not what you are told you want out of your tablet.

Well, I am recieving a galaxy tab soon. I am also very excited about it, I have played with both the iPad and the galaxy (my dad has both from work.) and I find that I prefer the Tab, however I do have a small screened android phone.

aizaka: I've updated the thread I began, called "I'm depressed about my Gal-Tab". If you go to the last page and read my recent update, you can read it and that might help you with your decision.

I love this topic! I was in the club of "What in the world do I need a tablet for?" until recently. I had planned on getting a Nook color for the kids books for my daughter who is at that learning to read stage. I have always found the iPad to be too big, and I'm a huge supporter of Android, so I didn't want to help line Steve Jobs' pockets any more. To be fair, and went and played with the iPad in an Apple store. I gotta tell ya that like someone else mentioned, I didn't hold it for long and just mainly left it on the counter while trying it out. Just too big. I also looked at the new LG Slate, but again...too big. Finally, that new Asus Eee Transformer looked SUPER HOT, but it sold out too quickly and yet again, it's still big, but that keyboard is a huge positive in it's favor.

Yesterday, I went into a T-Mo store to check out the G Tab after reading so much about it. I picked it up and just played around with it. Well, let's just say that after 45 minutes of it being in my hand the entire time, I went and placed my name on the list to get with a sales agent to talk about purchasing one. Lo and behold, they had none in stock as it was selling well in that store for some reason (especially since they dropped the price). Went home, got on line, and saved another $50 by picking up a refurbished unit. It arrives Monday.

I like that it's pocket friendly (I wear a lot of cargo shorts this time of year and I am in Florida after all). I don't have large hands, and this thing fits perfectly. I also saw some of the videos where users mounted them into their dash. That was just hot. I may have to thing about doing something similar to my Kia Soul as it would look really good inside.

Thanks for all the discussion. Between what I'm reading hear, the G Tab I picked up being on T-Mo, Android, and the 7" form factor, I think I made a really good decision. Can't wait for Monday!

If they'd add a mic and GPS, I would!

This thread seems to be comparing APPLES with oranges... the Ipad should be compared to the Asus Transformer (there are plenty of those elsewhere)... but after reading this thread, it's talked me down to a 7" tab, and most likely the Galaxy Tab (unless something new comes out soon). I was on the verge of buying the ASUS on my way home. Now I think it would be too big to be "portable".

Get a nook color and root it! Ban! Tablet!

Sent from my rooted nook color!

The Galaxy Tab has two cameras‭ ‬--‭ ‬a rear-facing‭ ‬3.2-megapixel camera and a front-facing‭ ‬1.3-megapixel camera for video chatting‭ ‬--‭ ‬while the current models of the iPad have none.
