A good majority of people need a locked-down device with only the ability to load approved apps.
We did a lot of this to ourselves.
People hack and load up a bunch of junk apps that cause a device instability, and then blame the device.
Too many people don't realize why their device works so good when they get it brand new, and then starts acting weird after they load up a bunch of apps.
One of the first things tech support would tell people was to 'hard-reset' - wipe the device clean.
Apple may have 'evil' motives for being so controlling, but it also may be to ensure a clean stable device.
