iPhone 4 vs. EVO/Incredible/X/Captivate discussion (Keep it civil!)

If you look at the problems with EVO, I don't think iPhone has much worse. And as mentioned, previously, Apple has a history of fixing most problems. Apple can't fix ATT's network problems, but a combination of a second iPhone network and improved wifi access and integration will help that a lot.

iPhone is a good choice for users who don't want to go geek with their phones and don't mind the restrictions. I love my EVO, but I have no illusions Apple is going away.

The "Hold Different" subtext CRACKED ME UP.

So you know how Jobs will occassionally reply to customer emails? Check out the response he sent to a new iPhone4 user complaining about the reception loss in the left hand as reported on Giz here.

Classic Jobs! "Just avoid holding it that way."

Wow...Just wow.....

Guys, it's unfair to point out the loss of reception on the iPhone 4. iPhone users now have the exciting opportunity to pay more of their money to Apple to awesome new cases! Either that or teach yourself how to hold your phone differently.

I've been an iPhone hater for years just on general principle, but the 4 looked pretty sweet, so I was torn. I am very thankful for this antenna issue, as I can continue to bitch :)

honestly it depends on what you want. my wife will be getting the iphone4 if im lucky i will upgrade my droid to the droidx. for my wife the iphone is perfect, it works out of the box she doesnt hack her phones. me i love to hack my phones nor do i want someone telling me what i can or should do with my phone

I thought this was interesting...

That being said, the DROID X probably has the best call quality of any handset I?ve ever used. It connects almost instantly and sounds great.

i hear that. very well put that's what i love about Android. I hope this phone gets rooted quick so I can get some vanilla on it. I just went and pre ordered mine at best buy :) 15th can't come quick enough. Now I don't know if I should sell more Moto Droid or my Droid Incredible. hhhhmmmm........

Actually from my perspective fixing AT&T's network problem was simply switching from iPhone to Android (Nexus One). No more dropped calls. Holds onto 3G much better and absolutely seamless fall over to edge.

Apple IS AT&T's network problem.

Oh really? You can't own an iPhone without also owning a computer. And your mom and granddad have to learn to manage a Music player in order to deal with their iPhone??? How geek is that?

My next door neighbor, who can just barely find the on/off switch on his computer has no problem with his Incredible, Email, web surfing, phone calls, camera. But no interest in iTunes at all. Couldn't tell a usb port from his belly button.

They did all the set up for him at Verizon, including the gmail account. They even moved his contacts from his old crapola phone.

He doesn't need a Fish to ride his lawn tractor, and he doesn't need a music player to manage his phone.

LOL at "avoid holding it that way"..

Can you imagine if any other CEO said that?..

And the iTards will do what he tells them to do..

I actually feel like he could have said more about each platform.

Like you can get better games on the Iphone..
... or that the Evo's keyboard, you can use a multitouch one, a regular one, a swype one...
Oh well.

I completely agree, but lets not forget the that the Android Market includes apps that require you to root. If you want to play games, the iPhone might be better, but if want freedom in what you can do, android is better, so I would call it a draw.

I would give typing to the Evo since you can really change how you want to type and have a lot of different types of keyboards, which you can skin.

I love my evo! I just think apple products are too limited! I will give them props tho if they never made an iphone all of our phones would still have buttons

I agree. My problem with the Iphone is the closed eco system and Itunes. Why doesn't anybody ever talk about how horrible itunes is as a program. If they over hauled that and made it more user friendly, less of a resource hog, and "prettier" I might actually consider the Iphone. If I could use an Iphone without Itunes I might consider it, too. But until then that makes the Iphone a non starter for me.

Even with all that said, I'm still a bigger Android fan than iOS fan, and probably always will be. I'm a current webOS user and love the openness of the platform, and android is all that and more.

Wow I just went on a sort of rant about a lot of different things. Sorry!

I will say that I hope in gingerbread Google makes the scrolling and transitions a little nicer. I still think that is really sexy about the iPhone.

Next year, I am seeing a 1600 x 960 screen for droid phones ;)

Hah! How do you like DEM APPLES, Apple?

Um....just to be clear, Apple didn't get crushed here. The iPhone 4 is a very good phone. The Evo was better in just 2 more areas and then just only so. Most of the comparisons resulted in a draw. Ultimately I think it comes down to preference and I just don't prefer Apple. However, I am slightly jealous of that screen. I would love to see such a high pixel density on a 4.3" screen (not to mention 24bit color instead of 16bit).

Of course. I acknowledge Iphone's strength. I'm merely letting out my obnoxious fanboy post is all. Of course, part of the reason I have such a thing is that I literally can't count the number of times when Iphone fanboys groaned "Wait will Apple releases the next iphone! It's gonna own all!" So it's really directed more at them. And you're right, it is preference-based. No Android fan will ever want to switch to current Iphone and vice versa. It's like Sega Genesis VS SNES all over again.

Actually didn't see this until now (after my post), but my DInc does this a bit too when I hold the bottom half of the phone (vs. the top half). It drops anywhere from 5-15 dB, so it isn't unique to the iPhone.

Exactly, I get that from my iPhone friend he constantly tries to shove his iPhone down my throat and gloat how wonderful the iPhone is. I find that kind of stupid that fan boys do this and praise it like it is the holy grail. It is just a phone and it all depends on your preference, but when i tell him what Android has to offer that is better then iPhone his response is well you we all have our preference. This is one of the main reason I dont like iPhone people.
