iPhone 6 Plus vs. Nexus X (or 6)

OP that pic is comparing specs of phones running on different operating systems. It just cherry picks what things are higher specced than the iPhone but conveniently missed out on:

- iPhone 6 is 4G (that alone kills off the Nexus 4 as a viable device)
- iPhone 6 has much better battery life than the Nexus 4, which was very poor
- iPhone 6 camera is among the best ever in a smartphone, whereas the Nexus 4 had quite a poor camera
- iPhone 6 has touch ID NFC payments which seems much more convenient (and may actually work) as opposed to the Nexus 4's implementation
- Can send text messages through your PC/laptop and answer calls through them (which is something Android needs to adopt ASAP)
- iPhone 6 has a full metal body, giving it a premium look and feel
- iPhone 6 has the better speaker that doesn't become completely muted when placed down on a flat surface

It's easy to make cherry picked lists for phones to make one look better than the other. There's a lot more that I could list, but you get the point.

They're both great devices, both with their advantages/disadvantages. But images like that aren't helping anything other than fostering up the type of nerd-rage and fanboyism we should not be perpetuating, but rather, dispelling.

The way I see it, there's nothing to one-up since iPhone just added features that many Android devices already had. There's an illusion of innovation surrounding the latest Apple products, since that has, at least in the past, been a real characteristic of their releases.

Fair point.

Only with stock software. I use SlimKat and get on average 14-16 hours.

- iPhone 6 camera is among the best ever in a smartphone, whereas the Nexus 4 had quite a poor camera

I've taken some amazing shots with mine (example attached), although perhaps this is due to software. You probably win on this point as well but I wouldn't say it's that bad.

- iPhone 6 has touch ID NFC payments which seems much more convenient (and may actually work) as opposed to the Nexus 4's implementation

Never use NFC and don't think I've ever seen anyone else use it either

- Can send text messages through your PC/laptop and answer calls through them (which is something Android needs to adopt ASAP)

You can do this via the Airdroid app, which is free.

- iPhone 6 has a full metal body, giving it a premium look and feel.

I actually like the design of the N4 and feel it offers good build quality and nice design. So it's not metal... big whoop.

- iPhone 6 has the better speaker that doesn't become completely muted when placed down on a flat surface

This is the worst feature of the N4 so you win here. Whoever decided on putting that underpowered speaker there is an *****.

The iPhone 6 will smoke my nexus 4 in every way shape and form except the price difference. The same goes for the iPhone 5 against the nexus 4. I love my nexus 4 but most of my friends and my two kids have iphones and as much as I hate apple fanboys I definitely know Apple makes a pretty damn good product and always has. I really wanted an IPhone 6 but it just doesn't seem innovative enough to make it a clear decision for me compared to the price. I really hope the Nexus 6 is ahead of it's time when it's released just like my Nexus 4 was when it was released!!! I have a hard time letting go of the customization of Android and the freedom to choose whatever I want!!

Funnily enough, many of the functionalitys mentioned so nicely in the start of the threads, the WebOS Users had already somewhere between 2009 and 2011 ... ololol. (see NFC, Wireless Charging - which still works better than anything on Android, usable Notifications, Cards, that thing you call "Dreamscape", etc etc etc)

I don't want to brag (nor do I need to), I just want to set your focus to one thing: it's not the BEST product or the one with the MOST FUNCTIONS that is successful. It is the one with the best marketing.
So bragging about specs or functions is a fail. People often like second best better, sometimes even don't understand a feature or just buy "that thing with the red colour" ...

I am on Nexus 5 atm. And happy enough. Slowly the Android platform gets to somewhere remotely reminding me of WebOS. Thank Duarte for that, I guess.

Just my 2 cents.

Exactly -- you bought your Nexus 5 online from the Google Play store. What I am envisioning is walking into an AT&T or Verizon store empty-handed and walking out with a brand-new Nexus phone working on their respective networks.

That would be different from your experience. In your case, you merely got a SIM card. I would like to see the store provide the actual phone to you.

Why would you ever want to have to interact with the carrier? T-Mobile charged an extra $100 just for the privilege of acquiring it from them. Even when I was using iPhones, I went out of my way to purchase the phone from the Apple Store so I could avoid spending half a day waiting in line at the AT&T store.

The difference in price should be a big consideration. Why pay 3 times as much for a device that doesn't offer anything particularly different?

fastest GPU unfortunately doesn't mean a damn thing if the ecosystem isn't integrated to work with it. Why do you think iphones work so well with only a gpu that Runs at 1.5ghz or whatever ridiculously slow speed compered to some of our Android phones running gpu's at 2-2.5 ghz but still lag where the iPhone doesn't. Especially when playing games. A 454ci. motor in a tank doesn't beat a 1.5L Honda civic. So to speak.
Weird I'm defending iphones??
Wish the nexus 6 was closer to release date. Seems Google is being much more secretive about it, a least to me anyways. I'm not sure what to expect but I get the feeling it could be absolutely amazing and the best phone around. Google show casing it's brand new OS on an absolutely amazing phone with better specs than any phone around running a highly integrated ecosystem will put the end to Samsung and iPhone!!! Nows the time to do it Google!!!

Agreed.... The iPhone gets away with lower specs because Apple does a great job of optimizing the software to the hardware..... You could actually use the analogy that a 1.5 L engine in a Honda civic is better than a 454 in that same Honda Civic..... The 1.5 L engine is optimized for the vehicle while the 454 is kind of overkill and you'll end up with other problems putting too much power in that chassis....

I prefer android.. and a lot of it has to do with cost.... Apple constantly rakes their customers over the coals..... I am all for profits because these companies have to make money to stay in business and profits allow them to gamble and take chances to develop new products or improve current products... As a company Apple is worth $590+ billion has over $100 billion in cash on hand and no true debt to speak of... Google on the other hand is worth about $380 billion has roughly $40 billion in cash on hand....... Filthy stinking rich is filthy stinking rich.... and both are filthy stinking rich... Apple is just arrogant about it..... Google at least makes it appear as if they are customer friendly.....

Thx JJ JONES and Robbie 387 I like your analagy to.
Well I don't know about you guys but I am going a bit crazy wondering about the nexus 6!!!! Is it going to be in the body of the moto x or bigger and now rumours of a curved screen/body. 805 808 or 810 processor? Bigger battery or same as moto x Camera rumours seem pretty consistent at 13 mp. Apparently two have been released in India for testing. Maybe we will have some leaked pics soon? Google sure seems to be keeping things tight lipped about it. Apparently the silver program was going to make top end phones to compete with Apples build quality? Could the nexus 6 be the phone they are going to use to blow all other phones away or will it be another great bang for the buck and then some nexus series phone?? I really like the moto x 2014 seems awesome. I want to have active listening!!!
I feel like usually we know much more by now than we do about the next nexus phone?
Yup I'm going crazy!!!

I keep hearing the same 13 mp camera as well and if it's made by Motorola I pray they don't use the same camera. That is the sole reason I'm not buying the new X and the horrible battery.

Google needs to step up their game with advertising and getting their great nexus brand in straight competition(threat) with apple.

iPhone Blows android out of the water

Wtf? Typical apple comment. No meat to their argument or comments. When I see these comments it reminds of some little kid on the playground who tags someone in the junk then runs off.

Android: Form follows Function.
Apple: Function follows Form.

The graphic shown, in all fairness, is cherry picking features, and does leave out a number of strengths of the iPhone. But I confess that while I'm a big fan of Android devices, and too entrenched in the ecosystem to consider leaving barring a vast deficit on its part, I am a fan of competition and had truly hoped for Apple to raise the bar substantially with their latest iteration, with real innovations that challenge the capabilities of Android devices in much the same way the Android devices have left iPhones trailing for the past couple of years. It's that leapfrogging that really drives the engineers and developers to push themselves in ways that provides us, the consumers, with faster evolution of the products we use.

Here's hoping Google doesn't slow down, and that Apple gets back into the game a bit more to keep Google on its creative toes.

One could argue that the iPhone is doing that. It's software is strong enough to make, as you say, dated hardware compete with the latest. Hopefully Android L finally FINALLY offers up a decent OS.

lol. In what way isn't 4.4.4 a decent OS?

(I mean stock 4.4, not versions with manufacturer UI overlays and additional software).
