To be honest, I don't really want to have to think about what I'm doing with my phone too much. I've never had to in the past. That being said, I don't think the phone would turn sideways easily, once it's in my pocket. And I'm not so careless that I'd put it in there sideways.
Again, the real problem for me is that they made the phone so thin in the first place. If they're not going to strengthen it sufficiently, if rather they made it a bit thicker, but fixed the strength, protruding camera and had even better battery life. I think they made a mistake making it so thin. I've rarely, if ever, heard someone complain about an iPhone being too thin. So it seems as if making it thinner offers nothing that most consumers want, and instead gives them things they don't want or can't have.

You are right. Apple made some bad design choices with the iPhone 6/6+. All OEMs make some bad design choices. NONE of the current phones are perfect and without compromises. NONE. It just so happens that the compromises that Apple chose to make might mean people need to be less careless in order to keep that thin metal phone that some think is good looking looking good. For those that need the Casio G-Shock of a phone there's more than one choice. For those that just don't think they should have to care how they treat their phones...by all means...don't care, it's your phone. I must admit though, I like nice things that do indeed look nice and I like to keep them that way. That includes my phones. There are a lot of people that LOVE the iPhone 6/6+ and all those people do not have some kind of flawed standards or flawed way of thinking. Same goes for the Note 4 and Moto X and a plethora of other devices.
