iPhone 6s Plus to Note 7?

O.k., I'm just going to say this...and hope I don't get slammed for it...I had an iPhone 6 (not the S and not the plus) and the battery on that lasted longer than my S7 (not edge) on any given day. I have concluded the reason for that is because I simply didn't USE the iPhone as much as I do my S7. Right or wrong, I have the S7 with me ALL the time and within arms reach. I'm constantly picking it up to google something, check the weather, read some news, tether to my iPad, read forums...etc. The iPhone I used for text and email (I use the S7 for those, too...just to be clear). But I didn't find myself constantly picking the iPhone up to just "check" stuff or read stuff or explore.

So for me, the Galaxy does not last as long as my regular iPhone 6 did...but I didn't USE my iPhone like I do the S7. I can't get a solid day out of my S7, unfortunately. However I'm trying to change my way of thinking and just accept that topping off throughout the day, especially with quick charge, is NOT the end of the world. I have historically been of the opinion that my phone NEEDS to get through a full day without a cord. Motorolas in the android world have come the closest to being able to do that.

I'm trying to come around...it's not like I don't have access to chargers throughout the day. Car, home, friend's homes, etc.
I used to be like that... HAVING to get throigh the day without charging up/topping off... I have been a user of all of the platforms but the past 3 itterations habe been Notes... I am not only a power user, but more of a JUNKIE SUPER-USER... This may count as cheating, but rooting/jailbreaking of my devices was the only way that I could get my battery to last me through a full day in the past... I believe those days are gone now though, not only with the Note being locked down (more than likely/most probably) but even with SUPER efficient ROMs and battery efficiency applications (boot managers, etc...) I now am just on my device constantly doing something... "Technicapped" if you will (I think I just coined that puppy right there)... Nonetheless, I have started to keep battery packs with me, and have no problem fast charging to top off or catch a full 2nd charge of the day... For me it is all about the ecosystem/environment, my capabilities with the device, sure a portion of how long it can last (but no longer a deal breaker), the pleasure of using the device, how doea it feel in my hands, and is it special (does it do more for me than anything else out there can)... The Notes (4 & 5) have done this for me, and I REALLY think the Note 7 is going to take it to a whole other level... I think this device is going to champion a lot of crossover consumers (abandoning their typical platforms) and even bring other Android user into the Note-Line for good... This is closer to what the 5 SHOULD have been, and if they (Sammie) add on to this trend (instead of take away, like they did in the 5), more and more users will make the Note their Daily Driver... I think the Note 7 is setting a precedent here for the Note-Line of products, and how Samsung learns/grows from it can really take them the Super-Juggernaut of smartphones once again (especially after the success of the S7/S7E)... 3 flagships in a row is quite the accomplishment... Just need to get the device in our hands now, and see if it can deliver as I EXPECT that it will...

Note 7 definitely has to last a full 10-12 hours with heavy use. My Note 5 could never come close, and that was a deal breaker.

As to using the phone for productivity, I routinely annotated PDFs on my Note, and looked/worked on Excel/Word documents. Nothing too heavy of course, but it was a godsend many a time. I also got used to taking notes in meetings on the Note, and can't wait to get that functionality back.

Taking notes will be a welcome return for me. I bought Surface Book to take notes and that device was a wreck.

The offscreen notes are great for me. I have to jot down a lot of notes waking between meetings etc. I used to always carry a steno pad and pen everywhere with me.

Now I can just pop put the spen, take notes on the screen and don't have to unlock it or open an app.

I'm in a different boat here. Most of the people are discussing battery lives and OS. But for me, the switch I made from Galaxy S7 to the iPhone 6s plus was solely based on built quality. Now this switch couldve been to an HTC 10 but I really wanted to check out iOS 10.

I don't keep my phones in cases. And I found a new scratch everyday. On the corners of the sloping glass. On the home button. Oh that home button! Samsung doesn't know how to make home buttons. They're so weak and fragile. I was tired of taking so much care of that phone and still seeing scratches. Samsung phones are too fragile for me to use with peace. I know I'm in a minority here. But built matters a lot to me. And that was the reason I switched from using 4 Samsung flagships in a row to a metal phone. And I will not come back to Samsung unless they make a phone which is as durable as the HTC 10 or the iPhone.

Dont get me wrong, the phone looks amazing. But it never felt amazing. Just a hot slippery slimy mess of fingerprints.

Built quality is where I'm at.

I don't know about weak and fragile.. I haven't had a case on my Note 5 in months. I did drop it on the concrete driveway. I got a deep scratch in the metal trim around the phone, nothing on the front, back or side of the phone, no glass broken or scratched.

I'll put a case on a new phone and after a few weeks of getting used to it, I always take the case off. I haven't had a screen protector since my Note 2. I did break that screen once though, I dripped it on the driveway and it hit the driveway on its corner. Same driveway as my Note 5 and same location of the driveway. That was an automatic crack.

I carry my phones in an empty pocket, glass facing me, sometimes in purse of I don't have a pocket and don't want to carry it. Other than those two issues I haven't had scratches, scuffs, breaks or anything on my Note 1 - Note 5 and all the S phones (minus the S7), except the two incidents I mentioned. I even have a cat that has laid and walked on my phone, to the point she has taken selfies with her feet and still no scratches even. The Note 2 had Gorilla Glass, the Note 5 has Corning Gorilla Glass. I think there is a chance with the current Gorilla Glass, the Note 2 would have likely survived that drop.

I'm careful with my phones but I don't baby them. I've had damage to spens that I have left out and forgot and damage them, but I wouldn't consider the phones fragile by any means.

So you don't have to open an app to take notes? You mean on the lock screen? And if so you don't need to scroll down for room to write more?

I'd suggest you to take a look at some youtube videos that will show you this and a lot more other hidden and not so hidden features on the Note 5 that will most likely pass to the Note 7, and once the Note 7 is available, you'll begin to see tons of videos for it.

See at 1:34 minute mark for what you are asking here on this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmpBd_VmtBM

But for a lot more detailed information subscribe to this guy, he is simply the best when it comes to show features on Samsung phones, see a couple of those for the Note 5.

This one is a most for an upcoming new Samsung user, take a look at the detailed page that also contains his Youtube Video, Note 5 Review: Top 100 Features - Techisode TV

This is just one "page" and when it us full you have to save it and start another. The Note 5 came out with this feature and the Note 7 could added even more to it, not sure. I haven't looked at that feature on the N7.

There is a setting to be able to do a lock screen memo. You take out your spen, don't have to unlock it wake the screen and it pops up. It is a black screen with white writing.

I may be wrong on this, but I think the Note 7 has the option to scroll on the active note screen (via small up & down arrows) so when you fill the screen, just hit the down arrow to scroll to new space to continue... I have seen that done already on a review... Nit sure if it saves as multi pages or one note, or how the file is treated after, but I do understand it to be a way that you can continie notes beyond one screen now... I am anxious to try this oit as well, bc on my note 5 I really wanted more than one screen of note, then it wakes up...

This is the screen off note, so I don't know of they have updated that one to allow that or not.

That was what I was refering to... The black screen (when S-Pen is ejected) you will now notice 2 arrows on the right side of the screen to scroll the black screen while jotting down notes...

Two Words: Battery Case. LOL

If the Note series does everything you need it to (and better compared to the iPhone), I don't understand going back to the iPhone JUST because of battery.

Android devices are more proficient for productivity and true multitasking, IMO; especially with the Note series. You can't compare the two. Most do, but that's based ONLY on the size of the screen and the camera quality. Otherwise, to me, there is NO other comparison.

Damn you guys! I recently got the 6s+ and told myself I was sticking with iPhone so I only upgrade once per year... Well after all the posts, pictures and videos of the Note 7, I had to go see the demo unit. Well, guys.. It looks like I'll be going to the T-Mobile store next Friday.

My wife is going to kill me.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by "productivity"..what does Android offer for productivity that iphone does not?

Both have office apps...google docs...great email..multiple ways to text/sms/chat/etc.

If by productivity you mean split the screen up, I guess I don't agree that's being really productive.

The note taking feature for Note 7 is the biggest advantage. I take a LOT of notes and so, having this available, and connecting to OneNote will be great (or Evernote for that matter).

Yeah..I swore off the Note after my last go around. Loved (and still really like) my iphone 6s+.

But I love what Samsung did here with the Note 7...better look and bigger battery. Ability to change screen resolution to reduce battery draw. ability to add 256GB of extra storage. I prefer Android OS overall...but I've NEVER had an issue with any iphone that I've used vs issues I have had on Android...so it's a leap of faith.

Also, I don't like how long it takes to get the latest updates for Android.

The iphone 6S plus was my first iphone. Sold it today to preorder a note 7. I found that on ios the phone did a lot less in the background than an android phone does. If I pick up my iphone and turn on the display it begins to update everything while my android is always up to date. For example widgets on ios don't update until you actually look at them. On android everything is ready to go.

This! The was one of my biggest pet peeves with iOS. The purpose of a widget (depending on the widget), is to keep updated information. On the iPhone, I felt that if I had to wait for the widget to refresh before I could retrieve the information, I may as well go into the app itself. Widgets on iOS are glorified app icons. LOL!

I discovered this as well. In fact, my data usage doubled when I switched back to Android (via my S7 Edge) because I was using it so much more than my iPhone.

Android does a lot more in the background than iPhone does, there are also more advances in Android apps today due to advances on hardware and software. Android apps can run and do more in the background than what the iPhone can allow.

That is why you have to tweak your Android and I know that is hard for people coming from iPhone to understand. Some people wants apps doing everything they can do in the background and some just have certain apps they want going that. We may give up a little battery life for some other advantages with Android.

...
Both iPhone and Android users trade something. You just have to decide what you are willing to trade.

Yep!

I love OneNote/Note-Series in concert... It's like the set up was just geared up for me exclusively (hand-tailored)... I love it!! Can't wait to see what the Note 7 doea to make this experience even MORE enjoyable for me (including all other features improved upon since N5)

Sammie says Nougat comes in Oct/Nov to Note 7 (and will be the first Samsung device to receive the update (carriers are an unknown tho))
