Well, I ended up writing a completely different review than I set out to, and I'd like to thank everyone here for informing and inspiring me because in the end, the better Android is, the more everyone else has to compete, and we all win.

I very much look forward to the Nexus Two, or AI, or IG88, or Bort, or whatever Droidy device we get next year.

You guys are the best Android community on the web (even the mods and editors!), so thanks again!

I really like the review. I totally agree that Google makes Android because it can. And because it can, it directs more web traffic through Google. If big G started selling Android as a PRODUCT and not a conduit, we could see some great things.
Does Google get paid at all for Android? Does Motorola get charged a fee for Google developer support?

interesting article. Google needs to invest even more time in Android. Maybe Tuesday's announcement will be a start t that.

Another entry!

Nothing really more to add here, other than the fact that i want an android device with a snapdragon, possible a x10, or a nexus 1. although as of right now, rumour has it that the x10 only has 256 mb of RAM, which is odd because im pretty sure that my htc magic has 288

Moving from an iPhone to Android, you might miss some of the beautiful design work but you're gaining a lot in flexiblity and the ability to add apps to your phone if you want - in other words to use your phone as YOU want.

It's open source, so there's no licensing fee directly, I don't think. I imagine they do hire out their programmers to help in development, though, but I believe the big money would be made through the use of their other services. Though, to be honest, I've never really figured out how Google makes so much money anyway, since so many of their services are free.

Great points Rene. This will definitely be an interesting year to see how it all plays out. Of course, free cell service in the US would be great too! ;)
