Good luck finding the "green button" on the Droid!

Ah now, there's the rub. I am using the T-Mobile Pulse, and it has the green button, menu, back/home, and the red button (along with camera button, volume up and down, and power along the sides).

For those without the green and red buttons, the Dialer application is your friend.

Actually, I would love a Motorola Droid, so consider me entered for the draw...

Hmm 2.1 ROMS, loads of hacking, what isn't there to love about the Moto Droid? Apart from no Green and Red Buttons, that is (but no real deal breaker)...

I had the eris up until a couple of days ago and decided to try the droid. The Android platform works well. I was never really and all google user but google is stable and it makes things very simple. I think you will enjoy any Android device that you choose. I came from an iphone so I started of with the eris. After playing watching all those droid commercials I had to try one. I'm glad I did. I love it. Good luck with whatatever device you decide to get and Happy New Year!!!

Right now I would have to say that while the droid is the current "hot" android phone, most of the attention should be on the HTC devices. They were the first out the door, and by google's own choosing "THE" phone that they are passing around headquarters. Not to say the droid is nothing, but as of right now it is just a flash in the pan.

I like HTC's ability to churn out new phones, but I'm always a little disappointed. Reception on HTC doesn't live up to RIM or Motorola. HTC has a lot of flash, but my Eris has been dropping calls like an iPhone and draining battery as quickly as an iPhone.
I suppose I shouldn't complain since my phone was free but I just wish they used better parts.

Personally, I'm not much interested in the Droid, since when it comes to Canada they're going with Telus. (No surprise, since the phone won't even support Rogers frequencies, not positive about Bell's.) The Nexus One, though? That's definitely one I'm interested in.

I currently own the iPhone 3G, and am getting frustrated with the viscious cycle between AT&T and Apple. An AT&T contract is 2 years, and Apple releases a new phone every year. Now, I don't need the latest and greatest hardware as it comes out. But the iPhone 3GS doubled the system memory, and Apple released OS updates to make the most of it. Now my 3G is sluggish and slow.
So I'm looking at Android. All the Nexus One rumors had me hoping that Google was going to do an end-around and offer an unlocked Nexus One that would use AT&T's network, but that looks unlikely.
If this keeps up AT&T will lose my business. Maybe if enough do the same they'll open up a little and offer a little variety.

Speaking to Rene's question on system fracture. I know XDA has threads on the Android devices that are HTC made. Is there an unlocker (or is one needed) to be able to hack the phone and allow users to do self updates to some of the newer OS updates? I think that Android could really get a ton of current WM users (myself included) if there is a lot of hacking and tweaking that can go on under the hood, or around the manufacturers allotted upgrade cycle. That way current G1 users could be sporting 2.1 etc (or are there hardware limitations to that?).

Not extremely familiar with Android (but I would get more familiar if ANDROID CENTRAL wanted to put out a PODCAST!! (there is my plug, podcast, podcast, podcast; come on guys!!)

NPR, you do not need to unlock the Android phones. What you need to do is called ROOT and it gives you access very similar to jailbreaking. There are many custom ROMs you can get from many different sources. The one I use can be found at CyanogenMod | Android Community Rom based on Donut tree..

check the xda wiki, you can get all the info you need to start loading custom roms onto you device, right now im running the newer version of the sense ui on my htc magic, with a brand new kernel. it runs very fast. Im just waiting for sense ui, on android 2.1.

but i want the nexus one or the xperia x10(love the big screen!!)

When I first saw the Motorola Cliq I was like, that's the best you can do Motorola....really? Then proceeded to tell everyone Motorola was done for. The Droid changed my mind on that done for thing....100% so.

Honestly I didn't think Motorola still had it in them to make a phone that I would want, but with the Droid they did it. There is almost nothing I don't like about it. From the specs to the design, I'm really loving it all.

I'm not a big fan of the Droid keyboard but it is good enough that I prefer it over no keyboard on the Eris also.
