iPhone to Nexus 6

So about two years ago, when it didn't look like Apple was going to be making a "phablet" I jumped shipped for a Galaxy S4. Had it for a year and then tried the HTC One. It was a really good phone at first. Kept it for a year then got the Galaxy S6. Still have it but not using it. I finally had enough and had to add the iPhone 6 plus to my family plan (I was basically carrying or rather paying for two devices just for myself).

The 6 plus has been my primary phone for the last several months. Let's face it. Apple makes a beautiful device. And does so so many things right. But.....

I saw last week the sale on Amazon of the Nexus 6. Being the phone geek that I am I knew of the device and it's great reviews. I ordered it (then told the wife that I ordered a third phone). Been using it sans sims card the last several days. And I gotta say. Pure android is so much better than the carrier bloat that gets added on the other phones.

Well today I did it. I decided that I want to give the nexus a chance to be my everyday carry. So I popped my iPhone sim in.

My main gripe with my previous (android) devices have been memory/ram management. After a few months of use. Installing apps, widgets, etc. The devices slow a crawl. To the point where it's frustrating to even use. That's what finally led me back to iPhone. They flat out handle memory management so much better.

One argument is, "well don't install so much ". I counter that with it should still work. I have hundreds of apps on my iPhone and it doesn't slow down. But dozens on my Android causes problems?

I'm hoping, with the nexus, and less bloat and more ram, that this will stick around for a while.

Both operating systems do so much right. But both have their own quirks.

Comments?

I'm 6 months into my Nexus 6. Lots of apps installed still running smoother than any phone I ever owned. I do more multitasking on this phone then any other.

I just dropped my iPhone 5s for a Nexus 6 yesterday. I am not a fan of the manufacturers of the new Nexus devices. I was going to hold out for an iPhone 6s, but I figured for $350 at Best Buy it was worth a demo. The device is amazing and lightweight. It is nice to have an OS that can handle email attachments correctly. I was an Android user for 4 years and switched to Apple last year. Now if only Google could make a tablet that is as good as the iPad.

Are you all getting all day battery life from your Nexus'?

Close to full day based on usage. Even on heavy usage days I only need 15 minutes or so of charging time with quick charging to get thru a full day.

I ditched my GN3 for the N6. I've loaded @175 apps and haven't seen degradation in either performance or battery life. Having a pure Android experience is bar none. Rather upset with myself for being blinded by the Sammy machine for so long. However, I've seen the light and it is good.

Been using nexus 6 for about 4 months and have all my apps that I need. Still as fast as day one. Buttery smooth. No complaints.

Definitely. My average day ends with around 40% battery left and 2.5 ish hours of screen on time. There may have been 2-3 days in the 4 months I've owned my Nexus 6 where I plugged it in mid day. The thing is, with quick charge, it wouldn't be a problem even if I had to do this more often.

This is easily my favorite phone I've ever owned.

All this should get even better when Marshmallow releases.

Easily get 2 days battery and even with over 100 apps installed it runs as smooth as it did out the box day 1.

I'm iPhone and iPad all the way. Getting the new iPhone and trying to sell my Nexus. Problem is no one wants to pay what I'm asking.

I don't know how you people are getting two days of usage but after some tweaking and such today was my best day by far.

Maybe your battery is defective?? I usually have 50%-60% left by 11pm.

Could be but if I had to guess I'd say it's probably my usage. Even with my iPhone 6 Plus and my normal usage I'd get about a day at best. And I believe that the nexus has a slightly smaller battery than the iPhone 6 Plus.

But my Nexus is only a week old so maybe the battery is still learning how I'll use it.

I stand corrected. The Nexus has a bigger battery. 3220 to 2915.

It's hard to compare the Nexus 6 to the 6+... iOS is a lot more stingy with background processes, so those devices use up a lot less power when idle. If you have a ton of stuff on Google Now getting accessed... location-based cards, appointments, etc. Those all do a lot of calls for location, network syncs for traffic info... you name it. Those can take a little bit of a toll on your battery. Which is perfectly fine, mind you, because there's no such thing as a free lunch. If you want all those contextually aware features to go off and do the thing that they do so well, you gotta pay the bill. :)

Always remember that battery performance is extremely volitile. Every user has their phones set up differently. Different apps using different services and different usage patterns. Two people with the same phone could see drastically different results. Silly things can make a big difference. A phone, screen off, sitting on a desk will use less power than the same phone, off, inside someone's pocket as they are driving around town doing a bunch of errands. In the latter case, the phone recognizes that it is on the move, so it polls for location more often (if you use Google Location Reporting).

That being said, I have no complaints, whatsoever, about the battery performance of the Nexus 6. If I wanted to (I charge early and often), I can get a comforable 24 hours between charges and my usual 3 1/2 to 4 hours of screen time. And this is also the first phone that I never really had to play power management games if I was going to be away from a charger for an extended amount of time. And to top that off, with the QC charger it came with, the thing fills back up really quick.
