Is a curved edge screen on a Note just style over function?

Rumor has it that OnePlus 8 will have a curved screen, just like the 7 Pro. I really hope this will be a false rumor, I'm not a fan of this. The design is obviously far from practical, first and foremost in terms of fragility.
