Is a Project Fi phone bound to a gmail account?

I have a valid Project Fi invite, which I want to use to get a Fi phone for my wife. She has her own gmail account. Can I setup the new phone with her gmail account? I want to use my invite because I do not want to wait for a few weeks for her invite to come.

From what I hear they will not transfer to a different account any longer.

just got my invite and it asked me if I wanted to use it with a different gmail account although I answered no and did not try to change it.

A friend attempted to give me their invite while I was waiting on mine to come through. The order process asks if you want to use a different Gmail account for the setup.

When we entered my address, it brought us to the page showing how long I had to wait. My guess is that the transfer would have worked if we entered an account that had not already requested an invite.
