Is anyone else on Verizon dropping down to 1X???

Still not fixed in my area, or at least, not for me or my wife.
We're in Southwest Michigan, on the Michigan Indiana state line.
I've had my DX for almost 9 months now, my wife has a Fascinate that she just upgraded to on the 2nd,which is when both our phones started having the frustrating 1X / battery drain issue.
Gotta trouble shoot with VZW tech support tomorrow.
I really hope this can get fixed, as extremely frustrating is putting the problem mildly.

Possible soulution from the fascinate forums

I don't know if these two issues are related since my DX has been rock solid on 3G, but my wife's fascinate started dropping 3G after she did the OTA update to 2.2 last night (and I thought DX updates were slow to release!). We found a solution on the XDA fascinate forums. A quick 10 minute call to Tech Support and everything was fixed.

***EDIT***

Since VZW tech support can be hit or miss and apparently tier 2 techs are really not supposed to do a dmu reset/sync <<see this post>> Tithought I'd pass on what I said to get such a quick response.

1. Just be polite to the the Tier 1 Tech and do as he asks. Pretty quickly he will pass you on to the Tier 2 Tech.
2. The Tier 2 Tech will do some basic troubleshooting (I had to reboot once) they will ask you if you know your google account info. This is right before they tell you to do a master reset.
3. If you have already done the reset before calling, just politely tell them that you already did this and that your friend with similar issues had the dmu reset and sync done and it fixed the problem. I had to do a battery pull and then reboot and everything was fixed.
4. Your mileage may vary on this but just keep in mind, above all else, be polite. These guys deal with 100 calls a day from people that are upset that they can't win at Angry Birds and obviously it is because their phone is broken and VZW needs to replace it. You can always call back and talk to a different tech.

Apparently as several people have confirmed the issue is related to with a combination of upgrading to ED01 and corruption of lock code data stream. You can either call for 2nd Tier Support and have them re-activate your phone / push new data stream or you can go on VZW and re-activate your phone. To re-activate your phone method via VZW, you need to have a spare phone to activate to and wait 5 minutes and activate back to the fascinate.

with a some clarification from a VZW tech in this post (xmunk on XDA)

What you need is two things and some techs won't know what you mean saying "i need a data reset". Tell them you need them to do a "dmu" reset followed with a sync with billing lcc and esn checked.

Thanks for that info, Nagrii! Hmm, now I don't know exactly what fixed my problem, but like you said it was a quick 10 min call to VZW. They escalated it, another tech called me back, and when I verified that 3G was working fine now, he said that they did find a problem with some tower(s) in my area, and they fixed it. ? Who knows...
But I am just glad it is a fixable problem! :D

Thanks too nagrii, after a call to tech support, second tier tech checked both wife and my phones, and just like LMO, said its definitely a tower issue with us too.
Now hoping it won't take too long to get fixed.

*228 Option 2

First level tech support had me do:

1. Shut Down
2. Battery Pull for 10 seconds
3. Re-install battery
4. Turn on
5. dial *228 and select option 2 (roaming activation)

So far it has seemed to work.

The 1X issue was not location specific for me as I live south of DC and commute to MD-had only 1X service everywhere.

Yeah, none of that worked for me. It was only when 2nd tier support got involved and did something on their end (found and fixed a tower issue) that 3G started working again.

Sounds like you may have had an entirely different issue than the 3G-1X switching back and forth problem.

Wow add me to the long list of ppl. I have been between 1x and 3g for about a week if not more. Its been really bad the last few days. Im in the burbs of Chicago and havent called tech yet.
I guess that seemed to work with a few of you so I might have to do that.
I have done the *228 both 1 and 2 and neither have helped. Ugh I love this phone but as someone said earlier the iphone must have brought that bad signal curse with.

This has been getting worse and worse in my area (southwestern New Mexico). Been fluctuating between 3G and 1x for days, and haven't seen any 3G at all today.

I know it's not a Droid X problem - seems to be affecting my other VZW 3G devices also (MiFi and my wife's BB Tour).

Time to give them a call, I guess - hopefully I won't lose *that* signal also :\

Just finished up with VZW tier 2 support - for some reason, all of my devices were using the wrong SID, even though I had gone through *228 activation to update the PRL.

The tech quickly walked me through all of the steps to set it manually, and my 3G service was restored after doing so...

... although in the minute since I started this post, it's dropped back to 1X.

Still, it's an improvement over the NOTHING I had before I broke down and called them. Guess I'll call them back if it gets worse again.

Edit: after an additional battery pull, 3G is back and seems to be hanging in there. So, manual programming + battery pull = fix? Seems unlikely, but I'm not going to complain as long as my data is working :)
