Is anyone going to stay on "Froyo"? Just curious to see if anyone will adopt a "wait and see" attitude towards Gingerbread.

Now that they've sewed up the exploit that gingerbreak uses, yes...although I'm sure it will take all of 12 hours to have a new root method again. Once it's all good, I will take a gb ota. But yeah, I use too many su apps to let go of root. Especially when froyo is working really great, and my oc'd x is super fast.

I'm running the stock .588 leak and would HATE to go back to 2.2.1!! GB is a great finishing touch to the earlier updates. You will be very impressed, if you haven't already encountered GB. All kinds of goodies to be discovered.

I'm on Liberty 2.0.1 Froyo Based and will probably keep it for awhile. I don't tether much mut do occasionally and have heard that Gingerbread contains some sort of tracking device to see if you are tethering or rooted. I've also heard that some su apps including Wireless Tether won't work correctly, so I'll keep Froyo.

I wouldn't count on remaining undetected for root and tethering if you're simply on Froyo. If they send an update your way and it fails, if may be possible for them to know that you're rooted.

True, I'll wait to see if the official Gingerbread can be rooted and see how certain applications function before making the decision. Right now, my current setup is stable and everything works the way I like it to.

The jump from 2.1 to Froyo seemed much greater than Froyo to GB. Froyo tastes better to me than Gingerbread at the moment.
I'm waiting a month or so for the custom ROMs to bake a little longer.

I haven't delved into the world of rooting and roms, so I'm sticking with Froyo until Gingerbread rolls out OTA.

I'll stay on Froyo until I find out Gingerbread can be easily rooted via a method like Z4root/Gingerbreak

Ok, good to see I am not the only one staying on Froyo. I have a smooth running X and do not want to deal with quirks and delays in fixing them.

QFT... I tether every now and then, and don't need my balls busted for a few hundred MB of tether data. (And to the ppl that are using unauthorized tethering to play PS3/Xbox Live..... thanks for firing up those flares.)

Im only on stock Froyo, and am a little confused about flashing Liberty.... can't find a concise set of install instructions. How did you do it, Diesteldorf?

I've been off froyo since the .588 ota leaked, and I wouldn't go back for any reason. Looking forward to the official Gingerbread OTA, hopefully soon!

I used the same instructions found here:

Liberty ROM 1.5 Released for DROID X/2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

except that I substituted Liberty 2.0.1 (the last Froyo edition of Liberty for the 1.5 edition mentioned in the instructions.

Yep, last time I tried to use wifi tether for root users with 595, I was sent to verizon page to add tethering to my plan. Like you, I didn't use it much, only when I really needed it.

You know, the more I am thinking about it, the more I am considering staying on Froyo permanently.

Here's why:

I have absolutely no issues with the stock 2.2.1 build that we are currently on. I am rooted (Z4root), have Netflix working (thanks to the hacked .apk over @ XDA), & still have ability to use Wireless Tether in extreme situations (I am not an abuser & probably haven't even used 200MB total since I rooted back in November...I just like knowing that it's there if I REALLY need it.) I use LauncherPro so I really don't want to go back to the Blur launcher (not even the new/improved one). My battery life will more than get me through the day even with heavy use & my DX is plenty fast for everything I am currently using it for.

I haven't decided with 100% certainty yet on if I want to forgo the Gingerbread OTA, but that is how I am currently leaning. Anyone care to weigh in?

My sentiments exactly! My X is working perfect and I do not want to mess with perfection. Maybe we will be the only 2 staying on Froyo?

<---------Do not know what that means, but it sounds funny!

I am going to wait and see. My X is running Apex 1.4.1 and I have no complaints. Probably will wait till fabolous has a apex build for the OTA GB before I roll that way.
