Is anyone going to stay on "Froyo"?

QFT... I tether every now and then, and don't need my balls busted for a few hundred MB of tether data. (And to the ppl that are using unauthorized tethering to play PS3/Xbox Live..... thanks for firing up those flares.)

Haha I could say the same to your "few hundred MB" since I oh-so-rarely use it for anything other than downloading a book on my Kindle. Not that that makes your use wrong, or the others' right (god, it doesn't) just laughing at how these things scale out.

You know, the more I am thinking about it, the more I am considering staying on Froyo permanently.
My sentiments exactly! My X is working perfect and I do not want to mess with perfection. Maybe we will be the only 2 staying on Froyo?

Gents... Isn't it impossible? Doesn't the update come, and not really give you the option of not installing it? Or is "just" being rooted enough to keep the update from hitting your phone?

Also - It's a little thing, but one of my favorite GB addons is the ability to clear notifications individually. I recently got a Nook Color and put CM7 on it, and this is the ability I miss more than anything when I'm using that instead of my phone.

In my case, having "bloat" frozen will prevent the update from downloading. The same holds true for those with custom ROMS. If you are rooted and have not frozen, deleted, or renamed "bloat" then the update will download but it will break root.

Just being rooted will not prevent the OTA upgrade from just happening, but if you:

A) Have a Custopm ROM installed or

B) Have certain stock system apps deleted or frozen, you will not be able to get the OTA until you revert your phone back to Stock with all the VZW crap intact.

Netflix was the one thing that made me think seriously about Gingerbread, but since I can run that in Froyo, I may keep Froyo for a long time.

Ah... it's the bloat-crushing that does it. I never deleted that, but I froze it with Titanium immediately after root was achieved. God, I love Titanium.

Yep. I might just delete something like VZ Navigator or Amazon Kindle that I will never use (after backing them up, just in case I ever want to get the OTA).

On GB now and could not imagine going back. It has been perfect in every regard.

I've heard good things about the leaks, but honestly the benefits don't outweigh the things I will be losing from my current setup if rumors are actually true about VZW patching the exploit path to curb rooting just because of the idiots who take advantage of free Wireless Tethering.

I couldn't imagine going back to a device where I had to deal w/ ads again because installing "Adfree Android" was my #1 reason for rooting.

....Well, now that the smoke has cleared and those that wanted the OTA GB can get it free at will, who's still bucking the trend and planning to keep Froyo a little longer? My big news: I just installed Apex 1.41 Froyo edition for those times I want to use HDMI now that Netflix is working. Of course, I am still rocking Froyo Liberty as well. Clockwork Recovery is great.

I'm still on stock Froyo & plan to stay there until an easy root method is made for the Gingerbread OTA & I verify that I can wirelessly tether.

With Rocky's help, I just backed up the Blur updater using Titanium Backup & uninstalled it. If I decide to get it later, I just restore it.

I might have to root to keep it rather than hitting later... can anyone confirm if pdanet still functions after the OTA update? (when comcrap goes down verizon is there... if only their non cellular ISP service was...) Also how much new bloat comes with this update?

I'm still hanging on to Froyo too. Mostly for the reasons you mentioned. I can smell it baking, but wouldn't want to pull it out of oven until it is just right.

I'm still on Froyo (by choice!) & curious if anyone else is too.

I still see people reporting too many bugs of key features on Gingerbread for me to risk giving up 2.2.1

I went to Gingerbread and came back to Froyo. Too many data connection drops in Gingerbread. I don't need the latest and greatest, I need a phone that works.
