Is Google too big to worry about satisfaction?

Is that what happened? No it isn't. Some stores started selling the tablet on the same day Google started shipping the pre-orders. Big deal.

But what if it was? In essence, same scenario, just longer waiting period. I'm trying to illustrate to you the entire point behind preorders and why customers pre-order in the first place, but it's hard to get through to the fanboy membrane that surrounds some brains.

If you had to wait weeks then yes, you would have a legitimate complaint. But orders are starting to ship the day that B&M stores are starting to sell them. It is not a big deal to wait a couple of days. But it's hard to get through to the "self entitled, I deserve it first" membrane that surrounds some brains.

It is when you pay for shipment to receive it on release date.

This thread was about Google and the likelihood it cares about customer satisfaction.

The details hardly matter at this point.

A significant number of customers feel wronged and are angry. Regardless of whether Google deserves it or not, it has a customer service issue to deal with.

Once a customer is angry, it's rarely advisable to tell them they have no business feeling that way.

This can be summed up "the customer is always right".

If you have a large percentage of your consumers feeling the same way, you obviously have something to deal with whether you feel it's a problem or not.

Also, it's sort of right that we can't necessarily be upset just having to wait a couple days. That isn't the point here though.

Google hasn't attempted to address its customers at all about this issue officially and in a broad, well announced way. It was also a bit deceiving to only allow pre-orders from their store and then wait until the last second and release it to retail at the exact same time. It would have been okay had they announced "Will Ship Pre Orders Same Day As Retail Release" or something of that nature. Otherwise, it seemed preordering the device was going to provide some sort of initial benefits, which there have been none (actually almost the opposite). Adding on the shipping (approx. $13.00 more for me), it's just a bit of a customer service mess.

It doesn't help that other providers of similar devices are very streamlined and well oiled machines when it comes to this sort of thing. Why shouldn't Google be held to the same standards as those other manufacturers and creators?

There is no such thing as too big to worry about [customer] satisfaction. If a company is enormous (like Google), it can survive for a decent amount of time even if its customer service is horrible. Eventually, however, it will catch up and the company will suffer as a result.

This N7 launch does not bode well for Google. It created the N7 to directly compete with Amazon and it's ecosystem of books, movies, apps, etc. Unfortunately, the other thing Amazon has going for it is absolutely awesome customer service. They get it right every time. I have been a loyal Amazon customer since before the invention of Amazon Prime. The reason I remain so loyal is that they have always met or exceeded my expectations for customer service. Always. I haven't been disappointed once in seven years.
I stepped out on a limb for the N7. I had a Kindle Fire and I sold it. I took a chance on Google, and I was supremely disappointed. The customer service is abysmal, and they completely botched this release with no explanation and no apologies. Thankfully I was able to actually cancel my preorder, even though it was already in the preshipping phase. Oddly, that's the one thing Google actually did right: cancelled my order when I wanted them to. Sad. If they had good customer service in the first place I would not have wanted to cancel.

Unfortunately, it's going to catch up to them if they don't learn from this.

Now I am patiently waiting for the Kindle Fire 2.

Lets not also forget that Google decided to release this tablet on Friday knowing full well is was 2 day shipping and UPS does not deliver on saturday with out an additional charge so the earliest people can receive it is mon-tues if thats not a cluster f*#k i dont know what is!!!!

I must be unlucky because every interaction I have ever had with Amazon customer service has been awful. It is clearly just me though because I always here great things about them.

Had Google come out clearly and stated. The Nexus 7 will ship on July 13th, those who pre-order can expect there Nexus 7 two business days from then. However retail stores will start selling them on the 13th. Plus had they not charged for shipping, like Staples. Us who pre-ordered directly from the company would not be a little steamed.

But if they had, nobody would have preordered from them directly! You can't blame Google for not being up-front about it!

I got my email notification first, the hold on the funds was released, then a few hours later my account was charged. So, I haven't experienced what you are talking about.

I'm just excited that I'll have my new tablet early next week. I'm defecting from BlackBerry, and after the series of hardware and software delivery delays and no-shows on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, Google is looking like a stellar company by comparison! :)

Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't own any products from Google. Hell, I don't even own an Android device. And by "you people" you must mean those of us with more than 2 brain cells to rub together.

Google put a device up for sale and said that it would ship in 2-3 weeks. You and others willingly put up your money for the product and by doing so agreed to the shipping terms. Google has honored those terms but you and others keep getting your shorts all up in a bunch because some other people have received their tablets first.

Google doesn't owe you squat.

Why are you trolling on an Android site if you don't own any Android products?

I didn't know that it was a requirement to own an Android device in order to visit this site. Must have missed that in the forum rules.

I come here because I am interested in the Android platform and the Nexus 7. Just because I don't think that Google owes you and others the world because they shipped a device in the timeframe they said they would means I'm trolling.

They did however promise a pre-order. The definition of a pre-order is:

A pre-order is an order placed for an item which has not yet been released. The idea for pre-orders came when people found it hard to get popular items in stores due to their popularity. Companies were then given the idea to allow people to reserve their own personal copy, before the release, which has been a huge success. Pre-orders allow consumers to guarantee immediate delivery on release.

-Wikipedia

Therefore they didn't provide a pre-order, by general consensus.

Do you just read what you posted? So they purposely deceived us just so that we would order it directly through them? What kind of logic is that?

This is way better than kindle fire. I tried it out.

You get 20,000 on cloud plus memory on the tablet. It takes less than 1MB.

That's enough for this morning. I have to hangout with my friend. He just got a backwards compatible PS3.

Oh yes you can blame Google. How is it that I have my device from GameStop and I preordered on July 12th(the supposed last day. I preordered with GP on the 9th.)?

I sent an email on Friday asking for a non-canned update for my order. Just received one back a few minutes ago. It said "I am still looking into this".

That's some great customer service...lol
