Is HTC spying on us?

It was only a month or so ago that a Japanese group hacked a torrent version of some game that introduced a worm into your computer if you loaded the pirated game. The Trojan captured the users web usage via screen shots, uploaded it to their server and then they got an e-mail saying "if you don't pay $50 We're going to publish your web surfing habits on the web" They made a lot of money.

Lol that's what you get for illegally downloading pirated software. Good for them!

No but regarding the other statements, I know about identity theft and I'm nervous about that kind of stuff. But the situation with the phone has been analyzed here on the Android central blog and it's really nothing to be alarmed about. Of course who knows what will happen in the future and what other security breaches will be found.

I'd be OK with this if it was ONLY bookmarks that were being screen shot. But when I checked my Incred there were definitely screen shots there that were never bookmarked. I don't mind clearing cache every once in a while, but I have 8 bookmarks and 77 images in the folder. Delete All. This needs to be fixed!

There is no need to be caching random screenshots. Especially sites where the content is dynamic. There is no performance gain in caching a dynamic site.

For those of you who take the "What are you hiding?" "Geeze guys. NBD. Get over it." "I don't care who sees my data." approach. Identity theft is real, and it can really make your life miserable. If you?re comfortable putting every detail of your life on twitter and facebook... Good luck. Personally, I value my personal data, and though the threat may be small today, don't you think there is some slimeball thinking... "Hmmm How can I use this?"

I do agree with you that identity theft can make your life misarable, but I also subscribe to the fact that someone is constantly trying to get my info. I also realize that right now my credit card info (and god knows what else) is in some ones data base just waiting to be activated. Unfortunately so is yours, and I only use my credit card at so called trusted locations, and I don't face book , MySpace, Twitter or any other social site. Other than cell phone blogs of course. So what can I do? Should I worry about it all day or just roll the dice and hope for the best.
Also I received a call from Citibank two months ago in regards to a $12 charge. I got all new cards due to this.

Dam Storm, you really know how to effect one's self esteem! :D The truth hurts...;)
To all fellow android heads out there, this post is to tell you that you are not that special , important or different than any one else. I am sorry to say but you are boring and ordinary. Even if HTC was watching you surf the web 24 hours a day where would it get them? It would get them bored to tears, that's where.
Big brother is now watching. Just get used to the fact that the whole world is now online and LINKED together. At this moment both NYC and London are monitoring the comings and goings of anyone within there perimeter and storing the info to be compiled and broken down in a infinant number of ways.
Now the good news 98% of us are good boring people. We live the same lives as our neighbors and friends and we ALL have weird stuff on our phones.
If you are doing something wrong (illegal ) and big brother does catch you oh well, but if you are worried that some one is able to see that you Google chicken sex don't worry we all have.
What I'm trying to say is don't worry about articles of this nature. Since 9/11 more info about you has been out there than ever, and I'm willing to say it hasn't hurt you yet.
Also if you are using your Droid for secret cia stuff maybe you have to go back to cloak and dagger school.

Another point of confusion in the forumsphere seems to be whether the files are stored on the SD card or stored on the phone. I did a simple test. I removed my SD card, fired up phone, and opened File Manager… Hello emmc/.bookmark_thumb1 you’re still there.

Do I think HTC is spying on us… Not really. Do I think this needs to be fixed. Yep!

Maybe it?s because I see so many people putting their credit card info into all the different variants of WinAV2010 that this stuff gets under my skin. I don?t live under a rock, and I don?t think anyone else should either, but when something obviously fixable is discovered, it needs to be fixed, not glossed over like in Appleville.

Winav2010???

Winav2010???

Win AntiVir2010. There's about 50 or so variants of it in the wild. I see about 5 or 6 a day. When someone tells me they even paid so the stupid thing would stop poping up, I immediately hand them the phone and tell them to call their bank and kill their card.

Oh....ya sometimes people just don't take a extra 4 seconds to think. I RARELY do business with some one or some thing that approaches me on a cold call.
However I am in a sweet deal with a African prince right now. I sent in $20,000, but my return is going to be $2,000,000 so I am getting a great deal. Lucky for me this prince found me.

Let me know if he has a cousin. I've got some cash I'm looking to leverage ;)

How much cash you got? And pour another drink or two and think this over.....send me your cash and I will send it to the prince in regards to his cousin.

iPhone pre-order disaster? (They sold 600,000 units that one day) Hate Apple but you have to respect the level of brainwashing they have over their iDrones. Also an article came out saying 98% of iPad buyers already own an apple product and 59% owner 2+....go figure.

./offtopic

Honestly, why would HTC give a crap about where you are going on the internet. I agree with Nikstorm on this one, once you realize you aren't special it's a freeing experience. Besides unless they want to tell with me that I visit Android Central, Gmail, Twitter, Tech Blogs etc A LOT on my phone....but they probably already know that, ask Google they told em.....lol.

Personally, I do not give a <<Beetle Bailey Curse>> about other OS’s and their weaknesses; other than to occasionally gloat. However, I agree with you about the brainwashing. I found an interesting article that sort of addresses the brainwashing here:

In reality, I restate my previous position; since it is a simple problem to fix, fix it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Saving random screen shots of websites visited is different from the caching the separate elements of a site for performance. Screen shots show context. Caching only saves disparate elements for faster download of those specific elements.
