Is it just me or is BoomSound not really louder?

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

I've had a go at the HTC One and it is clearly louder than my old Galaxy S2, though the latter has more clarity IMO due to DSPManager. (Beats is too overrated and is mostly a gimmick)

If your running a custom run then there's a chance that it can be the rom. If you check the xda forums for trickdroid or android revolution hd then there's people saying the volume is lower with the new update, which the last number to it is .13. I'm not sure what he fix was since I haven't checked on them in a bit.

No way. The HTC you had must have been more defective than mine. NO WAY was your Samsung clear. You are comparing Jensen and Bose and choosing Jensen. No way.

Tested the S3 against my ONE, same song. About the same volume level. But the samsung clarity sucked.

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

I'd rather loud music with clarity, which is what boomsound is, than really loud cracked music. Helps a lot when sharing youtube videos with my pals, especially since I don't need to cup the phone for them to hear it.

So either you think Jensen is better than Bose or you just don't want to see what I'm saying. What if had said Klipsch speakers instead of Bose?

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

Anyone who thinks Boomsound isn't loud enough...just wait till your local authorities issue an "Emergency Alert" right after you've gone to bed. Dear God. Happened the other night about an hour after I'd gone to sleep. Nearby county issued an Amber Alert and the phone went off on the nightstand with the loudest frickin alarm tone I've ever heard...scared the sh-- out of me! I didn't even know such an "emergency alert" feature existed on these phones.

Turn off beats audio and it gets slightly louder. Just a little tip for those who didn't know

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

I haven't found in my experience with the phone that it is insanely louder sounding than any other device - just a little bit. What really helps though is the speaker placement. It causes me to notice sound more.

I would agree with this and also add, for me, it's the clarity of the sound. It just sounds better than any smartphone I've owned before. Part of that clarity is software, and part of it is the aforementioned front facing speakers. They come together to make a sound package that, while maybe not just insanely louder than other phones, is noticibly clearer and louder.

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

I'm this case it isn't simply a matter of pure decibels.

Any cheap speaker can produce highs loudly, but the loudness and quality declines sharply when you get into the mids and the lows.

Boomsound is able to produce more balanced sound because the larger speakers and amplifier allow it to reproduce sound much lower into the bass band.

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

I just compared my brothers iPhone 5 with my HTC One and the volume is the same for them during regular playback but the HTC One is clearer. Then for headphones the iPhone 5 clearly is much louder than the HTC one. Then we tried them with USB audio speakers. A cheapish brand but the iPhone sounds brilliant through them and the HTC one sounds laughably timid. Could it be that the software of the speakers is poor due to being cheap?

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

My impression is that when I first got my HTC One, the Boomsound was very loud and very clear. I could listen to an audiobook while driving, without using earphones.
After I upgraded to Android 4.3, the max sound volume seems much lower than before. I cannot comfortably listen to audiobooks in the car without earphones anymore.. Same with music.

Has anyone noticed this as well? Sound quality and level can be subjective, but I noticed a significant drop on sound volume.

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

I don't understand why the speakers are on the back of any phone or tablet. That's downright stupid.

They figure the space in front should be maximized for the screen, buttons, and the earpiece. And I'm guessing they figure generally people wanting high quality sound would use ear buds or ear phones or a full-sized external speaker.

This explains why other OEM's arent running out and adding front speakers to their flagships.

There's some logic there, but once you get used to having front facing speakers it's tough to consider a device without them.
