Is it just me or is the fingerprint sensor pretty slow and picky?

LOL..... so the experience with the FPS is all over the place.

After reading the thread, I tried cleaning it all the time and redid all of my fingerprints. Same hit and miss situation. I'm trying to find the sweet spot but haven't found it.

I got spoiled on the Mate 9. I haven't had a Samsung phone with a fingerprint sensor. I have had two tablets with them but they were on the button.

As for placement, yes, I do miss it entirely sometimes but I'm not counting those in the failures.

i have to say, this is the only downfall on this product for me. But, it's enough that it could lead me to move on to a new phone in the Fall.... :(

Maybe you want to re-register your finger prints. Make sure you place your finger on it in many different ways during setup so that regardless of how you place your finger to unlock the phone, it will be recognized.

I face way less problems with this FPS than the S7's. I've had the phone for 2 weeks now and still no issues with the FPS nor the phone locked for even 30 secs lol. Used to happen a lot with my S7 edge.

It's okay for most part. But it definitely is finicky also. It takes me multiple attempts. And rarely, very rarely, I end up deciding to use the pin instead.

But a few attempts usually work. Also i have a case that has an opening at the sensor so it's great i can do it based off feel now

It's slow and fairly inaccurate compared to my Pixel XL and Mate 9 by a LONG shot in my opinion. Usually takes a few tries(and I have 2 fingers with multiple scans for each).

Register the same finger twice.
For example I've registered my right hand index finger as Fingerprint 1 AND Fingerprint 2. It really does help with reliability and speed. I do this with all my phones these days since someone else on AC suggested it, not just on my s8

Did it yesterday and it is not very accepting on varied placements. It seems to only accept straight on presses.

Interestingly, I just booted up my 6P.... better. I can't believe this is the quality of the sensor.

My comments were based on having multiple registrations for 2 fingers.

It's not always accurate, but fast when it works. In comparison, the Honor 8, S7E and Nexus 6P FPS seemed to work a tad better and accurately.

Mine is gradually getting worse. I registered a different finger and that went well but now it's crap too...

It's just been recently for me. After the most recent update from Verizon, it's been acting flakey. I've also noticed a problem with microSD card. Before the update, it would save videos rather quickly. Now it's taking a lot longer to save video.

I'm one of the S8's biggest critics for the placement of the FPS but mine has been flawless and fast when I do actually use it. I don't know how it could possibly be faster than it already is as it's pretty instantaneous from what I can tell and I've used a lot of different phones with FPS.

Mine works great. I'm surprised that it actually works better then the S7 Edge scanner.

You can scan the same finger more then once and that should improve it's accuracy. This is what I did on my S7 Edge.

I came from a Mate 9 which had the fastest fingerprint sensor I've ever had. My 6P was pretty quick. This 8+ seems to be slow and often requires repetitive pressing.

Is it just me?

Yeah it's pretty slow compared to the fastest ones. Maybe the fingerprint scanner is not that slow but S8 takes a while to actually turn on the screen

Mine is very accurate and very fast. Instantaneous. I didn't think the location would be good but my finger hits it just fine on S8+.

The fingerprint sensor issues on my S7 and S7 edge is the only reason I didn't upgrade to the S8. I registered multiple copies of my fingerprint but after a month it would stop recognizing them so i would have to delete and re register about once a month. My old 6P was instantaneous and my LG V20 is very reliable too...

Samsung sent me a survey request related to the S8. I filled it out. It turned out to be really long! At multiple points, I indicated my "very unsatisfied" with the FPS. I also typed it into the free form text box about what I didn't like. Doubt it will have much of an impact but, I tried.
