...did the problem with auto brightness solve itself?

Either my eyes adjusted or the auto brightness is making the screen brighter than it was right after the OTA update.

Have you noticed this too?

Never use auto brightness so I honestly couldn't say. I always manually leave mine at around 25% and only adjust it if need be.
Auto brightness is hard on the battery.
