Just finished watching the Ice Cream Sandwich announcement and was thrilled when they said the SDK is released today. Is it possible to have the great OV developer community port this to run on OV soon or will we have to wait for more to come out before its possible?

SDK I think is for app development. I'm not sure tho

It may be more realistic to rip the keyboard, camera, calendar...etc .apks from the SDK & install them on Gingerbread ROMs...?

check this out.

CyanogenMod is THE most popular and most well maintained 3rd party rom besides MIUI.

Cyanogen always tries to keep in sync with the latest android source. which right now is 2.3.7. thus, any phone running CM7 is running 2.3.7 as well.

when google releases the official ICS source code, you can be damn sure the cyanogenmod team will jump on it and create a stable rom based on it.

and when they do, all other roms based on CyanogenMod will be updated to sync with the CM source.

soooo i strongly believe we WILL get ICS, but it will be in the form of a IHO rom thats been synced with CM8 (assuming its called that)

it might take awhile. weeks if not a month or two. but I firmly believe we'll get at least SOME version of it.

heck, we got gingerbread when LG themselves wasnt sure about updating the Optimus One line becuase of hardware restraints. ICS didnt impose any new hardware requirements, we have a good enough cpu and more than enough RAM. its 1st gen android phones like the G1 and OG Droid that probably wont be able to run ICS

Yeah we'll see all those apps in the next few days. I remember when they ripped the gingerbread keyboard. I thought it was the next best thing haha

That system dump can be used to make themes i think...
I would love to have a theme or the apk's for all of the system apps.

It's possible. My Mytouch 3G started with Android 1.5 Donut and is now running 2.3 Gingerbread. There might be some lag but it will happen if the devs are willing to port it. And don't just say the Dream_Sapphire phones are easier to update because they're dev phones.

I downloaded off the market ICS Launcher and it looks and works shockingly well. It's very fast and fluent and has an authentic feel to it. I did download an app drawer icon from a HDPI only CM7 theme on XDA. It came with an extras.zip file and it had a png of the icon. Im happy! :)

Would you mind posting a link to the thread with that theme with the icons?

the only problem with the launcher is that it's made for HDPI devices, which makes it a little ackward when adding widgets and icons on the screen. it seems a little laggy as well, but hopefully it gets updated or we're able to use the actual ICS Launcher soon and not an emulator.

Doesn't work on my OV. Says " this theme was improperly compiled & cannot be applied"
Sorry about that, I got too excited after I saw it and posted the link while I was downloading the apk. I think it just has to be tweaked.

Yeah the Theme Chooser theme is HDPI only at the moment which means it doesn't work on OV. But im perfectly happy with the launcher. I'm sticking with that till an official ROM comes out!
