Android Central Question

I recently deleted 20 sound recordings to free up internal storage space. I was told that if the items were saved to SD card they were safe. However, after deleting from the phone, the recordings were gone from the card as well. I had deleted some pictures & videos, but they remained on the card. Don't understand why the recordings disappeared. I would like to recover them, they have sentimental value.

If the music files were on the SD card as well as in internal storage, and you only deleted them from internal storage, they'd still be on the SD card. If the SD card is formatted as internal (or adoptable) storage, they're only located in one place and deleting them will delete them, period.

If they're deleted from the SD card, use PhotoRec (from B. Diddy's link - the External SD Card Storage section). But be aware that any writes to the SD card - pictures, music, anything - can overwrite a deleted file, so you might nor get all of them back. And PhotoRec takes a long time, so set it up, let it run and get on with your life. When it's done, you can see what you have and listen to any sound files (.wav, .mp3, etc.) to hear what they are, and rename them properly. (PhotoRec doesn't recover file names, only file types.)
