Is it still worth rooting an android phone?

Looking for people who have rooted their phones and how those phones are treating them day to day. What useful or fun stuff does your phone do that my unrooted phone can't

It's been a long, long time since we've rooted any phones around these parts. In my opinion, recent phones just run so much smoother and there are so many small options to customize and make it your own.
Like you Bkdodger1, I have not felt the need to root a phone for about 6 years. I might consider it if a phone had reached EoL, (End of Life), and I wanted to install a custom ROM.

I don't need to root anymore. I use Google pay so I don't want to have that blocked.

Also the phones no longer need it. Since about 2017 for me, I never saw a need to root. Plus I used to stay up all night trying to get it perfect as to how I wanted it. I am too old for that

Rooting can still be worth it if you want full control, allowing things like uninstalling bloatware, customizing system features, or running apps that need deep access. Day to day, it’s mostly about convenience and tweaks, like better backups, ad-blocking across apps, or automation you can’t do unrooted. The trade-off is extra care with updates and security, but for power users it can make your phone feel truly yours.
Not to mention most banking apps and Google wallet will not work on a rooted phone.

I have to fall in with the majority on this one, I haven't rooted in 10 years or so, probably longer if I really think about it. I rooted to get rid of bloatware and to have more of a pc type backup. I lost interest in rooting when they broke root for the device I had and people were reporting that attempted rooting of the device was bricking the phone or something like that. Sometime after that I started buying factory unlocked phones that weren't coming with as much bloat and/or unlocked users could uninstall it. Don't remember exactly.

These days I don't root not just because I'm also part of the "too old for this" crowd but also because it kills banking on your phone. Most money apps won't allow you to set them up or use them, same for Samsung and Google pay apps.

If you have questions like this, you can sit and listen to us talk about how we don't anymore but you might find more reasons for and/or against someplace like XDA Developers. They were known for being a rooter's haven
