Is it worth buying S6 now? Or wait for S7?

apparently S7 will have 5.5 inch screen? Is that too big in your opinion?

This will always be very subjective. For me, any phone above 5" is too big simply because, even though I have big hands, I don't like to have to do gymnastics to access the entire screen with one hand. And that's how I use the phone. I don't use the phone to watch videos (I have a large smartTV and large PC screens for that) so a big screen is completely useless to me.
Other people however will tell you that they don't like screens bellow 6".
It's a matter of personal taste.

As for your concrete question...do you like the S6? Do you think it offers good value for your money? Then buy it.
If you don't desperately need a new phone and the S6 lacks something you'd like to see fixed (say, the lack of a microSD card slot, dedicated camera button etc) then just wait for the S7 and see what it brings. Worst case scenario, it doesn't bring anything that makes you go "wow" and you can even buy the S6 then at a much lower price.

No matter what you buy or when you buy it, something better will always be coming after (unless, you know, the company goes out of business). So if you're always looking for "the best" you'll always be chasing after it because it's always coming after what you got.

Cheers guys, awesome comments.

I read somewhere today that Sony xperia z5 and z5 premium are coming on the market next month. Would anyone know how s6 compares to the sony's flagship? I guess it's really hard to compare them with z5 not on the market yet, but raw characteristics might be enough for some of you.

I use a Sony Z3 Compact. I will not be buying any of the Z5 line. And I'll tell you why: camera and build quality.
Sony insists in not adding OIS or full manual controls to the camera. Or RAW support. Or to completely re-do the TERRIBLE post-processing that the camera does. As the camera is the feature I value most in phones, I would not recommend the Z5 series over the S6 to anyone (let alone over the G4). Even with the "new sensor" and all the Sony propaganda, you can bet the camera will be a disappointment.

So if like me the camera is something you deeply value, skip Xperias until Sony comes to their senses.
The build quality on Sony phones is great BUT I feel the Z5 series (namely the Z5 and Z5C) got a downgrade in terms of material quality. The new "frosted glass" on the back just feels like cheap plastic, contrary to the old glass they used.

However, if you don't care about the camera and the "frosted glass" doesn't bother you, then the Z5 series will be, to me, a better option than the S6.

The battery life, at least on the Z5, will last you for 2 days of medium usage (but easily last you a full day). It has quick-charge but unfortunately Sony also insists in not adding Qi charging to it.
The screen will look beautiful even at 1080p (2K displays are a gimmick) although they'd look even better if they used AMOLED.
I would be cautious about the Snapdragon 810. People swear Sony fixed the overheating problems (I honestly don't really believe it. Wait for reviews).
If you like stock Android, then the Z5 series has you covered because Sony is moving more and more towards stock Android (another reason why I won't buy a new Xperia). You will find very little bloatware too. Just a couple of Sony's own offerings. On the S6 you'll have to put up with TouchWiz (although when it comes to the Theme engine, if you hate Lollipop's design colours as I do, TouchWiz might be a necessary evil since the Theme engine on Xperia phones became a lot more limited since Lollipop.)

The phone also has 32GB+microSD which is a lot better than the S6 limited storage options.
The fingerprint scanner is also in a much more logical place, though the volume keys are in a really dump position (bellow the fingerprint/power button, above the dedicated shutter key).

The Z5P is just a Z5 with a 4K capable display. And I say "4K capable" because the screen will only be in 4K when you're viewing 4K content. The rest of the time it will be downscaling to 1080p for the battery. The Z5P is the only one that doesn't have the "build quality" downgrade to me and the Chrome Z5P is just awesome.
However, unless you have a vast library of 4K films (which you certainly don't) or if you think a Chrome finish is worth the extra 100€ they charge on top of the Z5 (or if you think 0.3" of extra screen makes any difference), the Z5P is not worth it over the normal Z5.

Samsung fanboys will tell you the S6 is vastly superior, Sony fanboys will tell you the Z5 is much better.
Once again, it comes down to what YOU value on a phone. If I had to chose between an S6 EDGE (and I'm talking about the Edge on purpose) or a Z5, even though (and because) I have a Z3, I would go for the S6 Edge only because of the camera. If the camera was not that important to me though, I'd pick the Z5 without ANY hesitation.

Thanks for such a detailed insight, very helpful.

Based on everything you said, it seems like s6 is the right phone for me, because I really appreciate a good quality camera.

I prefer bigger phones, so probably note 5 would be a great choice. However, I'm not sure if it would be awkward to carry out around, as my job requires me to move a lot and often Friday and be in very awkward positions. Another issue with note 5 is that it might actually bend in my pocket, beyond that big?

I like S6 too so I decided to buy one. If you like it, dont wait! Because the design of S6 or S7 dont have much differences.

I have no experience whatsoever with the Note 5 (because, you know, I'm European). However, I wouldn't expect the phone to break that easily. It's not an iPhone ;) It is a fragile phone though, and apparently the Gorilla Glass 4 that Samsung used for the back isn't as resistant as the DragonGlass Sony used in their Xperias, judging by the amount of people who broke their S6's.
Also, the problem of glass phones is that they're slippery. But you can solve that by using either a case or a dbrand skin.

In terms of battery life, yes, you will want to go for a Note 5 or a S6E+ instead of the regular versions as the battery life on those is appallingly bad by everyone's accounts.

Alternatively, and if you don't dislike the design, maybe an S6 Active would be a good option for you. You have the same great camera, a vastly bigger battery and you even get the "Active" button which you might customize as a camera shutter for example. I just don't think the Active made it to Europe though as I've never seen it on sale here.

Hey man I would suggest the s6 as the s7 is not going to be a huge step I guess I have a feeling this glass back and front are going to still be there. My s6 is beautiful it's so fast the battery is good camera and everything is fine. Suggest you go and grab one plus I have the white one as well :)

Hey.. Just wondering.

How does everyone know what the S7, a phone that hasn't even been confirmed, is or isn't going to be?

I know there will be an S7 phone, no one knows what the phone will be. They don't know about processors, display, memory, connectivity, etc. No one knows what the S7 will be compared to the S6.

Go for the S6 now. I got the S6 edge 2 weeks ago (it was on sale with my carrier so I got it over the regular S6). Just an incredible phone. It is leaps and bounds better than my old HTC One M8. The screen is awesome, the camera is superb, and it is very speedy. I was leery of getting it because of TouchWiz but honestly, it's not that bad. I don't mind using it on a day to day basis, but right now I'm using my phone "Nexus Style"- I downloaded the Android 6.0 theme from the theme store and I'm running the Google Now Launcher, effectively creating a Nexus Galaxy S6. Also, if you're concerned about the battery- honestly, I'm impressed with it so far. Without using power saver and with location services on I get from 7:20AM to 10:30PM with about 15% battery remaining. So to sum it up- The S6 is a great phone that is worthy of purchase now. Good luck and happy buying!
(P.S- my longtime iPhone using friend switched to the S6 after I got mine... He was very impressed with the design, screen, and camera. He jumped ship to it and is loving it just like I am)

If you don't already have an S6 then don't get one!

No SD card, no replaceable battery, downgraded USB connection (slower than S5), no longer waterproof, no radio, battery life is disgusting and stupid, the phone overheats easily and the back is made from heavy, fragile glass.

Don't just blindly buy a Samsung, look around with an open mind. There are many phones out there that will make you happier, probably for less money too. The camera is good but lots of other phones have good cameras now too.

Wow you're on a rant on every single thread, since I've read you apparently have one and are unhappy...fair enough you're pissed. Sir the battery leaves things to be desired, it could be better...but if you see a lot of the newer phones are also reporting less than stellar battery life overall...just saying.

Why would you buy the S6 if you're pissed about no SD card? Overheating?

As for the camera, its a stellar camera...not just good. Give credit where its due...If you're that butthurt sell it and get another phone.

I love my S6 but I also can admit it's flaws, it definitely has a few no doubt...but its very functional and a lot of what it does is excellent. If anyone who complains about the battery, we knew this before and at launch...why in the world people would buy this phone knowing the battery is super small is beyond me. If I was a super heavy user I wouldve never gave s6 a thought...but since Im near a charger always at work its not a problem.
