Is it worth flashing yet?

I used to flash my WinMo phones like crazy and customize my palm pre to the max. But with the Epic I haven't even rooted the phone yet because of lack of Roms available.

I see there is 2 ROMS now "Syndicate" and "Epic Experience".
Can the people who flashed their phones tell me if those are better than stock? Are they worth flashing and stable?

Bonus question: Why isnt there any cook who ports a Froyo ROM from the other Galaxy S phones to the Epic as they do for the others like fascinate, vibrant, ...? And if it's a keyboard setup issue why they dont just port the G2 android?

i wont flash roms, i flashed about 30 roms on my evo before i got it and got sick of flashing. i havent found a reason to flash. everything works great.

If you check the ROMs/Hacks sub-forum (which is where I'm moving this thread) you'll actually find a lot more than 2 ROMs, along with feedback of how they are better than stock.

Froyo has been ported to the Epic already by noobnl, but it is not ready for release yet as it is still a little buggy.

kgbcapthowdy I have no idea what you are saying ? Of course it's worth flashing. I know I'm a geek when I want my phone/comp/other tech to run faster, just cause. "Everything works" is no reason not to embrace the wonderful world of custom ROM's , overclocked Kernels, themes, and rooted apps

that fine. did you have an evo? Im just stating my opinion that i got sick of it b/c on the roms on the evo one thing would work while another wouldnt. Then if something went wrong id have to flash back to get it fixed/replaced....and bc everything works is a great reason not to embrace the world of roms and kernels. thats just me. I am rooted yes but thats it.

well thanks ass...i decided to flash rommanager and now ill prob flash a new rom...

well actually, you cant flash "Rom Manager"

you can install it, but not flash it. however you will NEED to flash clockwork - but you probably already know this if you put roms on your evo.

but anyways yeah i think its worth flashing. you can overclock your phone.you can also increase speed and battery by rooting.

your right that it becomes more of a hastle when you just flash roms all day especially on the evo because theres so many options. with the epic i typically stay with 2 roms and maybe flash a new one every now and then to try it. and i dont wipe unless i get force closes etc.

i decided to flash syndicate and xtreme kernel, man this thing flies now lol. running the emotionless beast theme and this is pretty damn nice. i did a nandroid of the stock so if i ever need do i just flash right back. so i guess thanks meovertrance lol. even though this will make my life hell now

If you own ANY Android device, you should root it without question. I can see the arguement against flashing roms though. The epic is fast right out of the box and launcherpro is all I use even after flashing. The biggest reasons for flashing my phone were longer battery life with stock speeds, more power on tap if I need it and "themeing" the phone. I like having the circle battery icon showing the percentage left instead of the vague, stock blue indicator.

You made a good choice. I was on Baked Snack 1.3 and switched to syndicate and love it. The support on xda in awesome and updates to it are going to keep coming.

i was using battery indicator pro before i grabbed the theme so the icon is nice but wasnt necessary. i am not longer using it since the icon now has both in it ya know. ive got it running at 1.6 but i think im gonna set it to the 1.2

I rooted last week and flashed Epic Experience ROM and Baked Snack 1.3 kernel. I think it was really worth it for several reasons:

- wireless tethering if/when I need it (rooting)
- aesthetically looks nicer, feels cleaner (epic experience)
- some upgrades to stock apps like music player
- kernel makes it much faster even though it's pretty fast already. If you don't care for speed it's not a big deal
- saves battery life due to undervolting (this is the biggest thing for me) - also you should customize with adjusting overclock speeds to lowest (when screen is off) and highest (when it's in use)

if you have your "governor" set up to conservative, theres no purpose in doing this. conservative will only scale up your processor as needed. so i have mine set up at min:400 and max: 1600. so when my screen is off its only working at 400. i can set it up lower but that will make it slower to start up. i think 400 is fine even if it can go down to 200.
creating another profile i think is just going to make your phone work harder than necessary - poss losing battery and memory etc. unless your using performance governor but i doubt you are

also to the person who said they are at 1600 but are thinking about going to 1200, i noticed when on conservative, it typically does not go over 1200 unless im doing something extremely cpu busy

I believe governor is on setcpu but I am using overclock widget

I know Hero_Over always includes that widget with his ROMs. I really should try using it one of these days - I never set profiles in SetCPU anyway.

oh ok. well then you should be on conservative by default. just a heads up so you know. the only time itll be different is if the kernel thread says otherwise - the dev will usually state it if its on a different gov
