Is it worth it to get the Verizon LG G4 when it's a $48 mini moneymaker? ($552 minus 600 in return)

It's late and I just want to make sure my math is right.

I just placed an order on Verizon's website in order to meet today's(10/29) deadline for LG's G4 $200 Visa gift card rebate offer.

$552 for the LG G4 on Verizon website

$100 off with Verizon promo code LGG4SAVE

$552 minus $100 and the order shows Device Payment Plan starting balance of $452. (as shown in the order confirmation email)

I will get the following two in several weeks.

$300 trade-in Verizoncredit (trad-in value for the $4.99 Verizon prepaid smartphone that I bought from Best Buy last month)

$200 LG G4 $200 Visa gift card rebate(10/29 is the last day to make qualified purchase, which is today)

$452 - $500 = $48 mini moneymaker.(which is enough to cover the sales tax of $33.78) Obviously there will be access and tiered data plan fees, until the day I pay off the $452 Device Payment Plan balance. I will most likely pay it off as soon as Verizon allows.

Basically, the LG G4 is totally free to me. Does my math sound about right? Or am I missing anything here? I did make one mistake during the order process... I wanted the black one but I ended up ordering the white one by mistake. That's no biggies, since I put cases on all of my phones anyway.

I'll be perfectly honest here, i would not buy the LG G4 if it was $552. But I don't have the willpower to turn down a free LG flagship phone.

Would a store give the full $300 credit on an upgrade? I've seen reports of this, but the only officIal promo I've seen is *up to* $300 on upgrades. It sounds like the stores just don't care and apply it across the board? Even an S3 I appraised on their site didn't zone close to that.

$300 trade-in credit is *ONLY* for adding a new line. Not upgrades. If your account
has multiple lines and an open spot for a new line, then you can definitely get the $300.

During checkout, the's a pop-up window that asked if I was adding a line or upgrading.
I clicked on add a line. Then another window asked if I wanted to trade in an old device.
I followed it and entered the LG Optimus Exceed 2(Verizon Prepaid, bought for $4.99)
and its IMEI number. Then I got a trade-in value of $300. On the last page, there's
also a promo code box where I entered the LGG4SAVE promo code. It took off $100
from the Device Payment Plan balance. (from $552 to $452)

So would I add one, swap the new phone's number with my current one, then cancel the extra line after a while?

Btw, if using that as a way to upgrade is fairly simple, then I think it'd be a no brainer to make a profit on that phone. Would certainly kill the sting of having to pay off my M8 with nothing to show for it.

this is how I always do it. (done this with 3 Note 5 phones and 1 LG G4 in the last month alone)

(1) add a line and let Verizon assign a random new number (making sure all the promos and trade-in are properly applied)

(2) phone arrive. take out SIM card so it doesn't activate. this avoids being billed the monthly fee(sometimes)

(3) check Verizon account and wait for the Device Payment Plan balance to show up... then pay it in full immediately. (this disconnects the line without any fees/penalties)

(4) free or almost free phone

I'm guessing there's no minimum requirement on how long to keep the third line active? And what about pulling the SIM card to avoid the monthly fees, is that the line access charge you're talking about? And I'm guessing I wait until it's fully paid off and the line closed to activate it on the current line?

you can terminate the new line whenever you feel like, just by paying the remaining balance on the device payment plan. I usually do this by logging into my Verizon account.

if I pick up the phone in a Verizon corporate store, the phone is already activated and I can't do nothing about it. However, if I order online, I just take the SIM card out before turning the phone on for the very first time. I've never been charge for the access fee or data plan fee. Verizon does bill you the first month of device payment plan on the very next statement.(as they should)

as for the new phone, you can immediately put your existing SIM card from any Verizon line and start using it. That's what I do.

got an email from Verizon saying my LG G4 black leather was out of stock due to high demand... asked me to contact Verizon internet order department.

very confused, because I got an email 2 minutes later with a FedEx tracking number.
